zebber: Hmm, little bit odd that when they announce publishers, they usually have a game or 3 of theirs to show...but with Atari we'll be almost two weeks since the news with nothing to see yet.

We announced the Atari deal during the CD Projekt conference, before the games were set for release :). We'll be releasing them throughout the month, but we're just getting everything set up for release.
any plans on releasing schleichfahrt/archimedean dynasty? it's pretty much the only aquanox part that is worth playing.
I can`t believe there are so many haters around.
What the hell is wrong with you guys ?
Aquanox is an awesome series. It`s the only 6-DOF underwater action/simulation.
The control scheme in Aquanox 2 is definitely more realistic and complicated. Last week I finished almost all missions from Aquanox 1, which was released about 2 weeks ago and I find it hard to get accustomed to the Aquanox2.
You can`t just dive into the middle of a bunch of enemies, since the inertia of controls is quite drastic (and realistic - after all, you`re underwater), thus it`s much harder to hit any target - since by just pure moving your mouse, the whole ship gets rotated, making it much harder to target the enemy - but it`s a welcome challenge.
Graphics-wise, the Aquanox1 is more colorful, whereas Aq2 has a more dark/gritty feel.
I remember clearly, at the time of its release, that I could barely play it under800x600 with my 500 EUR gfx card.
It`s a completely different game, when you switch to 1680x1050 with AA/AF and Vsync. You suddenly see into distance and can spot an enemy through the fog, which was impossible 10 yrs ago.
The graphics are still very nice, IMHO. The atmosphere hasn`t been lost throughout the years and it`s not a nostalgia - it`s reality.
Okay, I folded and bought both. I had to witness the horror.
At first glance the 1st Aquanox is actually pretty fun. It feels like a space sim but that's okay. The voice acting is very irritating, but I'm thinking it might have been a director choice to go with a radio drama feel. Other then that I like it.
The 2nd game seems okay. First off, I love the story. It really pulls you in. I don't like the FPS aspect. A good example would be the beginning when you go rescue that guy. You go through a canyon section and it feels like your being funneled through a tube. I thought the game was about open environments? But maybe you get more freedom later on. The coolest thing is the interface for your home base ship. It adds a lot of fun and realism to the game. Overall I would recommend them if you like Descent or space sims.
The soundtrack isn’t bad either. I like the fast paced techno feel.

As somebody who has his name in the credits of this game, I've got to say that I can understand a lot of the hate. It's still an enjoyable game though, and the gfx were really amazing back in the day.
Downloads of Aquamark should still be around somewhere, give it a try.

Well i loved Aquqnox, too.
schleichfahrt/archimedean dynasty is less Arcade in gamedesign. And yes I would buy schleichfahrt/archimedean dynasty too! Great Game.
About Axanox 2 I got 2 think, since Wine still has this Mouse warping problem I heared. :/ (And My Mac refuses to install windows ;)

bnf: As somebody who has his name in the credits of this game,

I think alot of people forget that some of developers of these games watch these forums for a reactions to releases. Personally I've never played Archimedean Dynasty. It sounds alot like the problem they had with Oregon Trail. Everyone loved the first release, not so much love on the second release, by the third everyone hated it. But then by the forth release they brought back a bunch of options that they took out but nobody cared anymore. It's very sad but developers seem to make this mistake over and over again.
I am after 10 missions of Aquanox 1 now and I have to say that I pretty much like it. It is not the same amount of fun as with Archimedean Dynasty but I was much younger then and it was much easier to engage me in a game.
Aquanox does the fighting right, the game world is still interesting but at the same time the simplification of the gameplay went too far. Voice acting is terrible, the menus are also anti-climatic so part of the AD's mood is not there anymore. The visual side is neat but the soundtrack is something I would not listen too even if paid for it.
But still - I am definitely finishing this one and getting the second part. I just love being in Aqua again. I think it was a very good decision from GOG to release these titles. They should be getting as many controversial stuff like this as possible to build a library of old games as no other. I know that there are many great old games still unreleased on GOG but they are coming, too.

its takes me back to Wing commander and other story driven games.. I'm just tired of playing games that are short boring and more of a chore then fun.. Aqua1 and Aqua2 are neither short nor a chore IMO. An absolute buy for wing commander fans... I enjoyed the hell out of this, and plan on loading up prophecy after this. I will be buying both 1+2 as soon as i have some throw away cash ^_^

GOG could just as well stand for "Grumpy Old Gamers". I would be disappointed if this site didn't have the "get-hell-off-my-lawn!" vibe given the demographic this site's content caters to. :D
It's the way of us fogey gamers. Everything we like or remember liking is brilliant. Everything we disliked is shit. AND DON'T YOU DISAGREE WITH ME, YOU GREENHORN WHIPPERSNAPPER!!!!
