A private detective, a superhero, and a museum curator walk into a bar--this isn’t a joke, it’s Anachronox!

Gather a group of unlikely heroes on a quest to discover the who and what and when and why behind a mystery that will destroy the galaxy for only $5.99 from your favorite digital distributor, GOG.com.

Sly Boots is in trouble. Face-beating, out-of-window-throwing, owing-money-to-the-mob trouble. After accepting an unexpected but financially tempting offer, Sly starts a simple cost-effective investigation, which turns out to be a much, much bigger quest than he anticipated. Soon, Sly Boots finds himself in the unenviable position of being the only man in the galaxy who can solve a mystery that threatens to end everything. Well, not quite the only person: Sly has some friends. Mercenary Stiletto Anyway, hotshot scientist Rho Brown, former Museum Curator Grumpos Matavastros, actual superhero Pac Estrella, robotic companion PAL-18, and naturally Sylvester “Sly” Boots together form a most unusual galaxy-saving crowd.
They are the only ones that believe end of days is happening, and you are the only one that can guide them.

Anachronox is charming, intelligent, witty, fun, and entertaining from the very first minute you start until the final lovingly-crafted moments of the engaging story. The game is not simply an RPG: it combines Japanese-style elements (like fairly linear story, cinematic direction, and turn-based non-random battles) with Western-like side quests, dialogues, and sense of humor, mixing in some puzzles and a story straight from an adventure game for good measure. Yes, the game was known to be kind of buggy at launch, but a pair of official patches and a later pair of fan-made patches have taken care of that and you can play it with virtually no issues. The most important thing is that the story flows like an entertaining novel--light-hearted, bizarre, and humorous, but at the same time the gameplay is addictive and challenging.

Minimum system requirements in 2001 included a Pentium II 266, 64 MB of RAM, and a sense of humor, while today they require $5.99 for Anachronox, available now on GOG.com
Nothing for me.
Yes, I'm weird.
The game works all right with Nvidia drivers.
But is it an impression, or does tweaking the mouse sensitivity in the game mess up your mouse settings when you go back to desktop?

The game is good, I had forgotten about Fatima ! wow... Great idea.
Now THAT is what I've being waiting for! Finally, I can cast my favourite spell! INSTABUY!!!
Never heard of this game before, but seems people are happy, so that's good. :)
Yes! Yes!! YES!!! What an awesome game!

Thanks a lot! And I mean A LOT!!

One of the greatest RPGs/storylines/character-driven games ever!
I thought, that this game was lost and noone sees its potential.

But make no mistake, Detective, GOG KNOWS.

Aaron86: I've heard about the cliffhanger at the end. How bad is it?

TheEnigmaticT: It's not that bad, you just find that as the story progresses to a logical conclusion it
Brilliant.
AT FREAKIN LAST!

Instabuy! Thanks for this release, guys!
I knew there was a reason I came here.

I'm VERY glad to see the price... but I probably wouldn't hae bitched too much, THIS ONE TIME, had it been $9.99.. It's one of the very few old releases with gameplay that's actually worth it.

INSTA'D.

Looks like I'll be filling Sly Boot's boots this weekend. Thanks GOG.
From everything I've heard about this game, I might just pick it up without waiting for a sale for once!

Only thing troubling me is the fact that, as I understand, its based off Quake 2 engine, which I guess means it uses OpenGL.

My laptop's Intel 4500mhd has some issues with OpenGL - something is screwed up with lighting so everything winds up too damn dark, and brightness settings have no effect. I can barely see anything in most places of Quake 2, and in Quake 3 I had to tinker in the config to get rid of dynamic lighting and force high global light levels, which makes things look far less appealing.
OMG, awesome! Great game I wasn't able to finish due to a bug in the late part. I just hope I still have saves, lol. Insta buy. Thanks.
Mite b cool, but the lockpicking 5 minutes into the game made me uninstall the thing out of sheer hatred of the mechanic the last time I tried it... Is it very necessary to progress?
glad to see the new games continue to roll in, but neither of these are my thing.

Yep. But it's fairly easy when you grasp how it works, so don't give up ;)

If you think of the problem as a binary search problem, it becomes very easy.

EDIT.
Is the game patched to build 46 (1.02)?
