fisk0: I'd recommend NOT using Winamp for that though, the mod support in Winamp is horrible, but there are bunch of other programs with great mod support, like XMPlay, Foobar2000 - I think even VLC Media Player can play them.

JDV72: The .IT files, however, seem to play well in WinAmp. Then use ChunYu's mp3 output plugin and you've got an Age of Wonders MP3 soundtrack.

I can confirm this. They sound exactly like they do in the game itself.
You are probably right about many other mod files though, I can remember some files did sound different on different players. "Catch that goblin" (s3m I think) was missing 2 - 3 minutes of the ending on some players.
If you only want to play Age of Wonders mod files Winamp is good enough, but if you want to explore an obscure but interesting music scene you should find another player.
Maybe GOG released this without any bonus because they haven't got permission for it yet and they wanted to release it before Steam and the other services.
That could be a wise move, If Steam released it first, GOG would probably get much less sales.
For Steam this is not an important game, for GOG it's probably much more important.
Arcanum have sold quite well (how much that is we don't really know) for a long time.
I think Age of Wonders may have some of the same potential.

Hate to say it, but the FUll Manual is a necessity for this game and the sequels. Let's hope this was just a case of crossed wires.
I have a PDF manual from my CD, but still, people who don't have the CD versions are really going to need the Manuals for all 3 games.

Well it's out on Impulse so GOG probably rushed it. They'll add the manual and other extras later I think.
Great release. I love this game. I already own this one but I'm anxiously awaiting the following sequels.

Thing is, I don't consider manuals to be an "extra". Soundtracks, Desktop backgrounds, yes, they ar extras but not the Manual.

KEgstedt: I've known about the upcoming Age of Wonders digital release for quite some time but it's still great news to finally see this amazing series becoming as readily available as this. I might go for the Impulse version of AoW1, though, since client-based services are more convenient than download-based ones for me personally. But it wouldn't surprise me if I ended up buying the stellar AoW2 from more than one place...

I was thinking the same thing, but I'll end up buying it here I think, just because it's far more likely they'll have bonuses on here eventually, where as Impulse, not so much.
A new release... and such a good one!! :)
Will there likely be a combo deal for all 3 together at all in the near future? Impulse is offering all three for $20ish. If not I'll probably end up just with AoWSM as well. (bought this 12hrs ago) Don't really need AoW2 otherwise.

You never know when (and if) there will be any specific promo, though with complete AoW series it is quite likely.

Yeah. But I'll make a exception with AoW because it's such a magnificent game. :)
As a HoMM player, what would you guys recommend from the AoW series? I can only afford one of them.

Definitely Shadow Magic. Shadow Magic gameplay has everything that AoW 2 does, but adds a bunch of extras, most important being a random map generator. If you have SM, the only reason to get #2 is for the campaign and scenarios.
AoW 1 has plenty differences from the two sequels so if you could I'd recommend you get it as well, but if you can only afford one, it must be AoW: SM.

What kalirion said - go for Shadow Magic.

Ok, cool, I'll look into it.
Sadly, after King's Bounty I'll never again play turn based strategy with AI opponent, but I remember AoW being nice HoM&M clone with a few nice additions.
