Well they mostly started ignoring continuity from series 3 onwards anyway (the text at the beginning of Backwards hardly counts). :P
Anyway, I was just suggesting that given his personality this is a hologram of the resurrected and now dead Rimmer rather than the one from the mirror universe.

I only just got into this series a few weeks ago, so this is good news! :)

It's good to hear that people like the new series. I haven't seen any of it yet, but I've been kind of dreading it, seeing the direction the show took mid-series 7 and onwards. Series 3-6 are my absolute favourites, and hearing that the new series is more like that than what came later is certainly encouraging. I'll look forward to watching it.

Well, Rimmer died with the rest of the Red Dwarf crew (except for Lister who was in Stasis) in the Cadmium II accident, all because he failed to fit a drive plate correctly.

He then changed history in Timeslides and was therefore alive at the end of that episode, albeit only for a few moments as he was then killed in an explosion.

Then when Kryten's nanobots rebuilt Red Dwarf and the crew he was effectively resurrected (well, technically a clone as it was a copy of the original Rimmer and the crew).

And now he is a hologram, so somewhere he died yet again!

At end of series 8, that's what I was saying!

The resurrected/cloned Rimmer died and they now have a hologram of him. Meanwhile the hologram switched on at the end of Timeslides is off being Ace Rimmer.

The books were written after the series was conceived of and released. They were tie ins sort of the way that those Star Trek and Star Wars books were tie ins.

Apparently there were some Red Dwarf RPGs that I never heard of, I should consider looking into acquiring a copy. Even though they're like 10 years old at this point.

Probably 15+ you mean. Red Dwarf finished 13 years ago. ;)

EDIT: Oh wow, ok. It's less than 10 years old! It was made 5 years after series 8. o.0

I have to admit, that this does look rather amusing. Not sure how good it actually is.

Yeah, I looked it up myself, hence the edit. Really surprised to find out it was made in 2003! Mind you, the programme has had a fairly strong cult following for a long time.

I know, it just occurred to me that it's obscure enough that others would want to know what I was referring to.

Just finished watching the episode and it's pretty good. It'll take me a bit to get used to the fact that the characters have inexplicably aged physically, but like I said earlier, it was inevitable. At least they seem to have gotten the formula write. I also really appreciate the quality of the writing, there were no deus ex machina moments, which often happen due to poor planning.

Which one did you just watch? Last week's or tonight's?

Stirmaster and Stairmaster do sound pretty similar in Lister's accent. ;)

I had a similar problem with the first few episodes of Misfits where I was having some trouble understanding the chav, but after a few episodes you get used to it and don't have as much trouble. I think in this case it may be semi intentional. Stairmasters were an infomercial product as well. There were always a few phrases that would cause me trouble, like with the inquisitor being "Jew gin joy" for the whole of humanity, with the benefit of the internet, I now know that's "judge and jury." It's funny sometimes trying to figure out which words I don't get because they're British and which ones I don't get because they've made them up.

But anyways, it's a little bit freaky to see the production values in terms of set design. They used to have to really scrounge around to get their sets made during the original productions. And this one looks like they were actually given money to buy stuff.

Jew-gin I can understand but I'm struggling to work out where the R could have gone in jury. I can't actually call to mind what the pronunciation sounded like, but I haven't been able to work out a way of pronouncing jury without the R. :P
