Foxhack: LucasArts HAS published a lot more games than the Scumm / Star Wars / Indiana Jones stuff, you know.
avatar
Delixe: Battlehawks 1942, Afterlife, Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Zak McKraken, Full Throttle, Loom, Night Shift, Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, The Dig, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Sam & Max, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rebel Assault, X-Wing/TIE Fighter, Armed and Dangerous, Grim Fandango, Galctic Battlegrounds, Empire at War, KOTOR, Shadows of the Empire, Thrillville.

Yeah they could get 25 games out of that list but that is assuming GOG will get every Lucasarts game and we know from the past just because a publisher signs it doesn't mean we get the full catalog.
You can get more than 25 games, even including some missed titles. Monkey Island and Indiana Jones alone make up 6 games. (7 with infernal machine) Yet you have them as a mere two entries. Sequels are titles too.

Jedi Knight is 4 or 5 titles. X-Wing is another 4.

I don't think the GOG staff would be so ignorant to hype this announcement so much unless they knew what would excite us. They have a wishlist top 10 from mostly EA, Lucasarts and Square Enix (right?) and this has been a lot of promotion on their part. What do you expect they would release after all of this. I wouldn't get my own hopes up but I can't help but wonder what would possess them to F themselves with an epic dissappointment.

EDIT: I can imagine them sitting in their chairs reading the forums, about to shit themselves. "They thought what?! Do they think we just pull this stuff out of our ass? Well, try to get Lucas on the phone and fix it. Apparently <insert publisher> isn't good enough. And get me my good kneepads." As if they would be so bothered.

I intentionally just made them one entry as I assume everyone would know there is more than just one Monkey Island game. It's pointless typing out every single Lucasarts title because they are just a Google away. I was just throwing out the big heavy hitter names to get the ball rolling. The problems are availability to GOG and the actual prices of the games. People want Zac McKraken but will they really pay $5.99 for it? I could also say the same about some of the Star Wars games like Rebel Assault. The chances are older Lucasarts games will have to be in some form of packaes which further shrinks the available games. Unless GOG are also going to announce a smaller price point like $3.99 which is what current Lucasarts ScummVM games are sold for on Steam.
The problem is that you made a list of 25 and claimed that GoG would have to get all the games to get the 25+. But when your list of 25 is actually 37+, it changes things.

You make a fair point on the pricing.

I said they would struggle to get 25+ games and I stand by that unless Lucasarts has literally given GOG the keys to the vault. As much as I like that idea it's very unlikely.

People might be more inclined if it was the FM Towns version (which I believe has superior graphics). Pricing is an interesting issue. If it is LucasArts, then 25+ titles would be the majority of their catalogue of old games which would demonstrate very strong support for the GOG concept (rather than them just 'testing it out'). Hopefully that would extend to choosing reasonable price points.

Someone on neogaf made a list: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28170165&postcount=1121

Yeah that's about what I was reading earlier. If GOG has the license to all those games then with packages it would come out over 25. Price is still the issue though. People aren't going to buy Secret of Monkey Island SE here for $9.99 when it's a dollar cheaper on Steam. Same can be said for games like Loom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Dig being $5.99. Anyone paying $5.99 for Yoda Stories or Rebel Assault is either a massive Star Wars fan or clinically insane and shouldn't be allowed a credit card.

diegopmc: 1. GOG wouldn't be able to use the publishers' names to create hype without their consent.
Yes they can, it's called fair use.

In Europe SoMI SE is for 8,99€ - definitely more than $9,99.

Foxhack: Y'see, they didn't just publish the GTA games, no. They also had a few imprints, such as Global Star Software... I can easily see them get 25 games just from them.
avatar
Delixe: Given the exceptions of Sensible Soccer 2006 and possibly Master of Orion 3 it's called GOOD old games. Take Two don't have that many good games.
Take Two owns Myth among other games from old catalogues they bought up.

PhoenixWright: Well I will be disappointed if it's just Lucas Arts, what I'm hoping for is Age of Empires.

Zenphic: +1 for AoE and AoE II!
+1 I want AOEII badly!

Also the rest of what LA and EA has as well.

Anyone remember the Star Wars version? I think it was Galactic Battlegrounds.

Nevermind, it wasn't a clone (damn near close, though). Loved it. I'm going to check the wishlist.

It's just AOEII with the Star Wars theme, I got the boxed set back then and played the game.
They needed a working, good successful Star Wars RTS after the horror that is Force Commander, so that came about.

It's ok, not awesome like AOEII was.
Itś very possible that we'll see EA over here. Note the fact that there will be 25 announcements, too many ones for most of the companies. Also, EA have some economic problems and they need incoming cash flow.
Lucas Arts would be great... but the thing is talking about 'old games' by acquiring EA, that would be a lot of more old game companies: Westwood (C&C, Lands of Lore), Origin Systems (Ultima Series), Bullfrog (Theme Park, Theme Hospital), of course Maxis (The Sims titles: Sim City, SimEarth, The Sims, etc.), Mythic Entertainment (Dark Age of Camelot)... also don't forget old EA classics like M.U.L.E. :P for c64
