Elmofongo: Thank you for your support ticket Judas, I could not even see the new Login bar at all. Just kept loading with the Spinning Circle loading icon.

But sadly I must offer a complaint, this situation is a cautionary tale of not to "fix"/edit/alter/tamper with something that was never broken in the first place.

I personally dislike the whole point of changing of whole interface because in some cases it is not necesarry. Youtube is a prime examle. (And Facebook and Twitter as I have heard.

Hold that thought until we get everything done and then let us know what you think once we get over the initial bumps in the road, ok? :)

Me too :)
Just some thoughts that came to mind I thought I'd share...

GOG hasn't mentioned the technical details yet, but it seems as if we are all being required to change our passwords with the new login screen. Normally a website/service would do everything they can to try to avoid people from having to change their passwords with site changes, which leads me to speculate that GOG may have switched the password hashing algorithms they were using on the old authentication system from a lesser secure cryptographic hash like MD5 or SHA1 to a higher grade modern one such as SHA256 or SHA512. If this is the case it would require a necessary password reset as there is no way to automatically convert hashed passwords from one format to another automatically.

While it is just my own speculation that this is what may have happened, it would be reasonable considering how long the old system was in place and that they're revamping the site and likely putting more modern security measures in place including upgrading to a more secure hash. If this is indeed the case, it is a good thing from a security perspective and it would totally explain why we are required to reset our passwords. Also, I don't think they would require the inconvenience of a password reset unless they were making such technical changes that require it by their very nature.

Minor growing pains at any rate in the grand scheme of things. :)

FWIW - I've logged in, out and back in around 6-8 times today after the login system changed, and wasn't required to change my password, not once.
Well, I hope that now that this is over with, GOG can give us some news about Galaxy and reveal the new publisher.

wintermute.: If someone uses NoScript and enabled the cookie protection (NoScript Options|Advanced|HTTPS|Cookies) you have to add *.gog.com to the list of exceptions to login, no way to login otherwise. I guess the guys from GOG will sort this out.

Shambhala: Let's hope a whole site re-haul is coming
avatar
wintermute.: I'm not sure if I would like that. :P I'm used to the actual site and it works in a way I can't complain about it. But if I have to stand the whole UI madness of the last months I would really hate it. ;)
Thanks for the tip. It appears that if you're using any cookie management plugin that restricts cookies that you may need to re-evaluate the cookie configuration you've got set up for *.gog.com. In addition to NoScript, I use CookieMonster and had to allow www.gog.com to be able to have access to cookies for secure.gog.com as well. It hadn't even occurred to me until I saw your post.

I haven't tested the results yet but it makes technical sense why some of the failures I was personally experiencing may have occurred due to insufficient cookie permissions.

Strange but good to know. Could be some other issue perhaps.

Finally managed to log in the site, was attempting during the last 10 hours, both in home and in my workplace and always received that spinning progress symbol...

I couldn't log in all of yesterday on any browser. Finally can log in again now. Not sure why the change, if it aint broke, don't fix it seems to apply here.

I was worried for a while.

Why do you say "reveal the new publisher" - was a new publisher announced? And if there was, I know I was only joking about the new logo looking like Microsoft's Live logo - but should I be worried? ;)

Same here. Had a Support ticket open on it and it seems like they finally fixed it for this hemisphere, where it was bollocksing a lot of us.

If this is even a taste of what it's like to have to be able to connect to a service to PLAY your games, I'm glad I never went that route.
