I just noticed something new when I went to claim a Steam key for Defenders Quest from Humble - there is now a tab to claim the game on GoG key also.

When did this happen, does it apply to more games.... and why did I not know about this!

Anyway, this seems to me to be a step forward in the right direction for gOg.

Retro City Rampage has had a similar set up with pay option to include GOG key through Humble widget for months (at least since Summer 2013) so this isn't necessarily new.

hmm... I checked some others that are on gog, like Incredipede and Rogue Legacy, but they only show Steam keys.

It could be a right move on short term because they probably don't earn any money from this. But, they could become more known.

I predict that in less than 3 years Steam will charge some money for every key they give to other stores. They gave them for free, but now they are by far the most popular digital store for video games. Why should I buy anything from Steam if I can find the same game cheaper at GMG, GameFly or GamersGate?

All I'm saying is that they do what Steam did to become popular (give keys for free for 3-rd parties) but Steam will probably ditch this method because they don't get any money.

Level Up Labs have always been generous with GOG keys for their direct customers in the past, so it could be due to the initiative of this particular dev rather than a general direction for GOG and Humble? I wouldn't mind if it wasn't though. :)

I see absolutely no reason for steam to do so... It is just more PR for steam, which gog also could have, and regarding people buying elsewhere - it is true for sales, but according to the last post mortem on Wrack, as soon as they got on Steam all other sales dried out, and that is even with those sites offering Steam keys also. Do not forget that all those sites have been selling Steam keys for years now, and there is no indication that things will change. I do not think they will, as it is in Valves interest to not do so.

Yeah, but it means that the structure to do so is in place in Humbles systems. I think it is great.

I find myself buying less and less games directly on Steam and more and more games on GMG, GameFly or GamersGate (Steam key also). Not to mention HumbleBundle :).

No, but neither you nor me may be very representative for the normal Steam customers. I only know what one of the developer said, and that was that they noticed all other sales drying up when they got on Steam. Personally I prefer Humble (store or widget)
