I would call it a Torchlight clone

If it were a Torchlight clone, then I'd call it a Diablo clone... but I can't, because it is nothing remotely like those games. It kinda reminds me of Dungeon Keeper because it is a clone of that game.
And the news of this game has made me really happy. I played both DK games and have been mystified that they've never been recreated.
Once this is done, maybe they can clone Syndicate.

First you wait a decade and more for a sequel to a great game, but alas!, no cake. Then, when the planets align again, we get practically flooded with these "tribute" games.

Did bullfrog ever make a bad game? I know they were my favourite all time dev's.
They had such a varied catalogue too! Unfortunately because games are so expensive to develop nowadays it's rare that anybody ever has a license to try new ideas in the way that they did.

Hi-Octane wasn't their greatest moment, but I still enjoyed it back in the day.
I think that the cost of games development is the primary reason we continue to see publishers insist on the tried and tested. I almost wrote tired and tested. I think that would have been more apt.
Interesting. But so many ambitious mods never see the light of day that I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet.

Seriously, it's about goddamn time. Maybe if this becomes a success, EA will finally get off their asses and do something worthwhile with that IP again. Release the originals on GOG, for a start.
They were an amazing development house. For the life of me, I will never understand how EA managed to kill so many of those off. Or why. You'd think once they'd bought a brilliant developer, they'd endeavour to let them continue to do what they did best. But no, the corporate line was apparently "buy, stifle, maim, blame and kill". How that could ever be seen as a sound business strategy is beyond me.

I'm still sceptic.
My opinion: Kalypso will ruin this game as they ruined Disciplies 3.(and i don't like Tropico 3 either )

A lot of publishers seem to think that pushing development houses to absolute breaking point is the best way to get results.
It boils down to greed and ignorance. We can hope that the latter will improve as the industry moves out of its infancy, but I doubt we'll see much sway on the former.

Well.... EA is worth millions and millions and millions. And after that, there are a few more millions.
I'm with you... they did manage to destroy more than a few good studios, but despite that, their business model, which is to make millions and millions and millions, has proven remarkably sound.
Maybe it is because gamers keep buying games from them.

There is something I always say, afterwards people tend to think I'm a kook and they stop listening to me... but this is it.... Every consumer decision you make is a political decision. If you want to exert influence on a company to do better, you have to reward and punish with your dollars. If all they get is rewarded, they'll never stop doing what they do now.

EA does indeed make ridiculous amounts of money, but I can't help but think if it isn't in spite of some of their more ridiculous business practices, rather than because of them.
If I were a publisher, looking to buy a successful development house, my thoughts would go something like this: "Wow, they make excellent games that are very popular and sell lots of copies. They must have a business culture well suited for game development. Over the years they are going to make me a lot of money if I just let them do what they so obviously know how to do. I might even learn something from them."
EA execs, on the other hand, seem to think "Wow, they make excellent games that are very popular and sell lots of copies. But I bet they don't know the first thing about how it should really be done. If we restrict their creativity and force a different business culture on them, I'm sure we could get much better results out of them. It didn't work the last three times we tried it, but I'm convinced I'm right anyway."
It seems to me that corporate business types only think of economy in the very short term. They'd much rather have $2 million now once and for all, than $20 million over the next five years. And most of them definitely don't subscribe to the philosophy of "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". Also, my experiences over the years have led me to the conclusion that one philosophy they do subscribe to is "there's nothing that can't be fixed by drawing a new organizational chart". I've seen this done as a "solution" a staggering number of times, despite the fact that it has never worked.
I agree completely. I think the reason most people react that way is that, frankly, most people are idiots. To quote George Carlin: "Think of how stupid the average person is. Then realize, half of them are stupider than that!"

Whoa! Now that is some neat news! I was rather disappointed with the UFOs, but we'll see what they'll come up with, hopefully now with a lawsuit from EA. ;>
