golea: What amazes me the most is, that a giant company like EA is acting like a very shady, crooked letterbox company. Not that I expected anything remotely altruistic from them, but that is sooo low, I'm almost speechless. Yet another EA title to skip, meh. I'll just wait for War for the Overworld.
avatar
Strijkbout: Well in all honesty, EA has done a lot of good things, gog has a large part of their catalog and we got most of the expansions that go with it free (if you already owned the game), you can get games like BF1942 for free of them etc.
They only seem to be hell bent on grinding the last $ out of gamers who want to buy their new stuff, which makes me wonder.
I know. I played SimCity 4 to death and the first Dragon Age was quite fun. But after that it's mostly down hill.
Anyway, at least it is possible to give a 1-star rating for the game directly in the GooglePlay store, even if the game itself tries to trick you to give a 5-star rating.

timppu: The funny thing is that quite often I got bored waiting also in the original Dungeon Keeper game. Like, say, I got a couple of level 1 vampires from the graveyard. Too bad that training them to be 10th level uberlords takes like 40 minutes in real time. So in a sense, even the original game had too much waiting, but it didn't offer any way out. And maybe there was a reason why it would take that long time, like that you had to keep your gold balance ok during that time too, and make sure enemies were walled out and couldn't attack in the meantime.
avatar
Fenixp: Oh you didn't actually have to wait most of the time. Well you did have to do so to play the game optimally, but really, getting your minions to level 10 is an overkill
Well, that depends. Some levels really are that hard that you really need those precious few Mistresses or Vampires of yours to be on very high levels, in order to fight the masses of 8-10th level enemy hordes. Especially on some of the Deeper Dungeons levels.

For imps, maybe less so, even though a 10th level imp certainly gathers gold much faster, and doesn't die as easily to enemy traps, as a 1st level imp does. But on some levels you'll learn that even the 10th level imps keep dying all the time, so easier just to let them keep dying, and spam new 1st level imps to replace them, without any training. Maybe try to keep a couple of trained imps to gather gold only, from a gem.

But I guess in many cases you could be doing other stuff at the same time while waiting for some of your minions to train. And it wasn't like you had to wait several hours either, more like 30-40 minutes max.

So they finally did something with the IP, screwing it.

Thanks EA, it´s because companies like you that I´ve learnt to love DRM free.

Well yeah, in some levels, you had to do a lot of training. Not in most tho. Haven't played Deeper dungeons tho. As for the downtime, I have explored the levels when I didn't have anything better to do - there was so much hidden stuff in most of them!

Right and if you knew where to look, you sometimes could find a bonus to let you take a creature to the next dungeon.
Even though we're still giving them money with the purchase of the originals on here it does seem like they've always resented the attention older titles get after their latest sub-par offering. It's like they just can't believe that something "new" didn't automatically mean "better" to us.

Also that PR douche's insistence that us old fogies were always going to complain, implying that our criticisms have no merit, really gets on my nerves. You took the most basic of gameplay mechanics (mining) and made it take one real-time day for no other reason than to milk money out of people. Fuck. You.

I think there was one in most levels, actually. And that spell thingy which actually allowed you to level up all your creatures.

Fenixp: Oh, I actually remember seeing that.
And then doing my best to phase it out of my memory.
So, thank you? I guess..
Hey! It's great! It's funny! YAY!
One of the most naked attempts yet to jump on the "dripfeed of wealth" bandwagon that is the microtransaction. Shame they didn't provide a game to go with it. It's almost like someone heard that junkies are paying good money for stuff to shoot into their veins, and decided they wanted a piece of that market action. But instead of making heroine they decided to just go with saline.

I didn't want to say that because I couldn't remember for sure, but I believe that's correct. Which meant that you could ensure that you had 1 level 10 creature on most levels.

And starting a level with a level 10 warlock is a tremendous advantage. Not only can he wipe the floor with anything coming your way early on, but your research will be done VERY quickly indeed. Other creatures are naturally also beneficial, but for the first lots of levels, I think the warlock is your best choice. Later on, I think the vampire is probably my favorite.

mondo84: Apparently. It's an in-game pop-up.

More info at Gamasutra.
"It's not bad. It's just different!" Yeah, I believed you...

IT2013: i agree that ea should be ashamed of themselves
avatar
Natamysza: Yes, but I think gamers that support microtransactions should be even more ashamed. You know the old rule: no demand, no supply. Apparently there are a lot of people willing to pay and then companies like EA just exploits it. I'm not trying to excuse EA, this game is a disgrace but unfortunately it's also gamers' fault that we have to witness this travesty
Agreed.

not surprising. it seems a lot of people two can't tell the different between hating on some and meaningful feed back these days. in this case, it seems more like their pr person, is trying to say in a very goodie two shoes way.. Fuck all of you, we don't give a shit about you, only the money we can make.

Strijkbout: EA CEO: Let's make a new Dungeon Keeper game!

Devil: Good idea, I can provide a sequel if you sign this little contract.

EA CEO: Done!

Devil: Thank you, here is your game.
Na if that happen, there would be a rise in evil deeds, not just anger.
This is what happen.

Angel/paladin: Greetings we heard you are making a dungeon keeper game, that has a evil is good saying to it . We hate that and fear it might make more people turn to evil. let us help you, so they stay on the good path while enjoying a game of sorts.

Ea: Less work for me and i get to be seen as a goodie two shoes? Sounds good two me. Deal!

then you get a game, where you can't even do anything evil in it. well maybe, if you wait long enough or pay a huge pile of gold coins.
