Crosmando: Lol, you know console gaming is dying when even the Japanese are porting their games to PC to make bank
avatar
mrcrispy83: eh it's more that Konami's pretty much dead and doesn't really have anyone to even work on games anymore, and the ones that do are all put on the MGS series.

hence all the outsourcing titles (LoS, Frontier Gate, MGR)

tinyE: I think I was ruined by the original Castlevania; it was so damn hard and everyone seemed good at it but me. That has nothing to do with this thread but I love reminiscing about the past. :D
avatar
mrcrispy83: I actually beat the original game for the first time last year. It actually isn't all that hard outside the last stretch, just that you really only have one good shot per continue to clear the stage like a lot of older games because you'd be a bit short on powerups if you died.
I couldn't get past Frankenstein! Fuck Frankenstein! That's not even him that's his monster. And what the hell is Igor doing there!? There was no Igor in the book!
But there are igors in Castlevania!

... They are really goddamn annoying
I thought the imp/igor hallway in the third stage was harder than the boss.

Dracula gave me the most trouble, since the timing felt really counter-intuitive. And the second form seems almost completely dependent on powerups.

LiquidOxygen80: I was actually disappointed by Konami's pre-E3 stuff. I really don't care about MGS, and I wanted some more 2D Castlevania lurve. Give me a SotN 2, not LoS 2, gdi. :(
avatar
Luisfius: Every single 2D Castlevania since SOTN EXCEPT for The Adventure:Rebirth has been SOTN 2.

LoS was flawed but fun and interesting. I have not tried mirror of Fate yet. and I am hyped for LoS2. as long as they have more classic castlevania tunes besides music box bloody tears/vampire killer (I forget which one was in the music box level). Hell, even the walk cycle in LoS was classic Castlevania.

KingofGnG: To be purchased, even if my PC can't handle the (first) game. Heck, they have Patrick "Jean Luc Picard" Steward on board, every other consideration is null.
avatar
Luisfius: And he was having an absolute BLAST playing the part. You could tell he was having fun with the role.
Obviously, I wouldn't be a Castlevania fan without knowing that. My point is that I want MOARMOARMOAR, k? :D
I thought the first Lords of Shadow game was, alright. Although honestly it felt pretty uninspired while using the Castlevania mythos as set pieces.

Mirror of Fate was probably one of those worst games I've played recently. The controls felt really loose (some of the jumps I was pretty sure I couldn't make, but had to, and somehow made.), the combat was boring and pointless (Combos like that don't work in 2D), and the story was chopped up into 3 acts, and then the acts were shuffled around for your confusion. They tried to make it seem like a SotN-type game, but it doesn't even play comfortably when compared with the old stage-based Castlevanias.

Honestly? I'm not really interested in LoS2 anymore. I'm just sorta scared that this is going to be the held view of what Castlevania is, just another game that loses its identity for something that's flash in the pan.
1080p?! 60FPS?! Awesome!!! I can't wait. :)

Roman5: Phew! What a week from Konami! We had a lot of stuff shown to us at their Pre-E3 show but to me of course the most important thing was the castlevania info

First and foremost, the first Lords of Shadow is coming to the PC as the ultimate edition with all DLC, in 1080p and 60FPS

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4Sw5u9N_qU

Next up, after a long await, we finally got more information regarding Lords of Shadow 2 and a new trailer as well

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7Ujh-8iqiY

(More detailed info from Pre-E3 show here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7ASvEJLeyY)

I have to say, looks absolutely fantastic, strong contender for game of the year, buying this on day one

So then, what do you think?
Please be awesome, please be awesome, please be awesome...

Glad I'm not the only person who found it horrible...

As a Castlevania game, Mirror of Fate felt like it was full of set pieces. The characters were bland (Revenge is what I live for!! *Rolls eyes*), honestly I felt the whole thing was an excuse to really make their Dracula sympathetic (Avoiding spoilers for those who haven't played Lords of Shadow), while still making him seem on the edge of good and evil.

StingingVelvet: Pretty happy the last one is coming to PC. It's not really my kind of game but my nostalgia for Castlevania made me want to play it, plus I like the aesthetic.

I wish Microsoft and 2K Games would understand the whole "porting the previous game before releasing sequel on PC" thing.
Still waiting for the first Darkness game on PC....
Are there any previous instalments available on PC? Through emulation or something? This series seems to be so praised, I can't believe PC gamers are oblivious to it.

you can play all previous installments on PC through emulation right now, even the PS2 games

/edit: and this, but it is not to be mentioned when children may be around.

Lords of Shadow is intended to be a standalone series that starts from it's own beginning. I think it might actually be a better game if you haven't played any of the previous games in the series so you aren't bogged down by all of that nostalgia.

Arghhhh! Poor Vampire Killer! What have they done to you?!
