Hmmph. Arkham Asylum was a downright-amazing game, but announcing a sequel so soon? With the Joker again? Hmm... Don't know what to think of that.
For single player games you can't really have a sequel 'too soon' unless it's totally devoid of storyline. Let's face it, AA wasn't exactly ground breaking in terms of game play -- I actually passed on getting it (even at $25) because from everything I saw the boss battles were a fairly big let down fighting the same steroid-esque guys again and again. I'll eventually pick it up for the voice acting and ambiance.
From the poster on the new website it looks like Two-Face will be one of the villains and from the little you can glean from the short teaser that they might go with the 'No Man's Land' plot from the comic books or, at the very least, take the story out into the city instead of just the asylum itself. I was a bit disappointed with the relatively small number of mainstay villains that made an appearance in the first so I'm hoping this time they put in Two-Face, Penguin, etc. all voiced by the same actors they used in the Animated Series.
I'd rather risk a sequel coming out too soon than the nonsense Valve is pulling with Episode 3 -- what's it been, over two years now since Episode 2 and not as if the episodes were as long as the original.

I could do without the joker but otherwise woohoo! I'd sooner have two face, the riddler & maybe mr freeze as primary antagonists
Wonder if Harley will have some other fetish outfit this time, French Maid Quinn perhaps?

I suspect The Joker was just used to give them a way of doing the announcement. I'd bet someone else is the main villain this time. If you go to that website, they have a billboard with someone doing the whole 'Uncle Sam' I Want You thing...but the face is ripped away, leading me to guess it'll be Two Face.
Adam West.
Michael Keaton.
</thread>
West certainly, I was hoping AA would have an unlockable to replace the ingame voice with Aam West but sadly I was left wanting. I thought Keaton was a massive disappointment.
Kevin Conroy, on the other hand, is awesome. He was even awesome in The Venture Brothers a while ago

As much as I dislike Tim Burton's work, the Keaton/Nicholson Batman was far superior to cLOONey and KillMe. Don't get me started on the "villains", either....
I have the money waiting. More please Rocksteady! Also I agree with Aliasalpha Kevin Conroy is Batman as far as I am concerned. I would like Adam West in a cameo though, maybe the Grey Ghost as he was in the Animated series. Riddler will probably be back with the challenges which I liked and there were so many mentions of Batman villains in the original Arkham Asylum there could be any of them in the sequel.
They should base it on the Knightfall series.*
[spoilers for knightfall]

Part one: As the batman, out in the streets, trying to take down all the villains. (though AA already kinda used that storyline).
Boss Fight: Get your ass kkicked by Bane.
Part 2: Azreal as mecha/evil batman. (with shurikens, and maybe lightning)
Part 3: Original batman vs mecha batman.
*but i've been saying that about the movies for ages, and it's never happened. And now bane has been neutered so many times. :-(

At least Bane was similar to his comic version in Arkham Asylum. Bane in Batman and Robin was an abomination.
And they announced it just before Christmas.
(imitating Joker, singing): Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg. The batmobile lost a wheel and the Joker got awaaaaay!
Crashing through the roof, in a one horse open tree, busting out I go, laughing all the weeeeeeee (laugh).
Sorry, I just loved that episode.
I was listening to the joystiq podcast and they were all "here's a good idea for a sequel, these aliens take over the justice leagues hideout and sap all the super powers from the super heroes, except for batman because he doesn't have any, and then batman has to go and save the super heroes!"
because that is actually what happened in a storyarc in the justice league.
and ever since they said that is an idea, that is what I wanted to do, so badly.
but unfortunately, this was just a fan's idea.
I can't think of anything they could do for a sequel that would be any good at all other than this idea.
See, the first one got crazy cool because of all the different villains they could involve and still have it be reasonable, if it happens any place other than arkham asylum either it's going to be too big for the same type of scope, or it's just going to feel really silly having that many villains at you at once.
At least in the isolated island of arkham asylum, you could have the villains running around doing whatever they wanted.
I believe in Harvey Dent.

Batman Arkham Asylum: as you’re all probably aware, a sequel has been announced, and I don’t think it’s going to be as good as the first, because it’s trying to take on an open area. Some listener of the joystiq podcast wrote them with an idea for a sequel, that it breaks my heart every time I realize “oh shit, that was just some idiot talking about it, rather than someone who had anything to do with the game.” but I’ll share that story with you as well.
Aliens take over The Watchtower (the Justice League’s space headquarters) and capture all of the super heroes and steal their powers. But they leave Batman (and a few other powerless heroes) alone, because he has no super Powers. Your goal is to enter The Watchtower, defeat the aliens, and rescue your super powered friends.
Why is this a better idea than “Arkhamhasmoved.com?” because it hits a few key elements that Batman Arkham Asylum had.
I. Closed Area
In Arkham Asylum, it makes sense that areas are typically small and that you have very limited movement (i.e. no open world map like Spiderman 2 http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/spiderman2 80 Metacritic score). Keeping the action limited to The Watchtower is going to continue this thread, while moving it into Gotham is going to make you feel much more restricted because there you’ll be on a city block and you only have a few yards of movement area (not counting verticle space).
II. Closed storyline
You’re only concerned with what’s going on, on Arkham island. Opening it up to an entire city is really going to have the opportunity to open up too many different story arcs. Staying away from that, without feeling like you’re enclosed in some weird world closed off from Gotham is going to be difficult.
III. Compact Experience
opening up to the rest of Gotham is going to give you a longer game, if they cannot keep the storyline closed or the area closed, which means you’ll no longer have a compact experience which you can experience in a short amount of time.
IV. Lack of Characters
I guess they could see about using whatever characters weren’t in Arkham Asylum, other than the obvious ones (don’t spoil it), but it showed some of the best Characters already in AA, maybe they would have pulled some bullshit “oh they broke out” line, but if they use Mr. Freeze, Clayface, or Poison Ivy, I’m going to be pretty pissed.
And this is why, I feel the new Arkham Asylum is going to suck balls.

Because, god knows, every sequel needs to be a carbon copy of the original :p
That being said: What was Arkham Island, if not an open area? Just so long as they work out a way to fence you in without it being too obtrusive (because Bats isn't going to go get a pizza while someone is robbing a bank), you can do the street-level gameplay.
And you DO realize there are buildings in Gotham, right? :p
Closed Storyline: Again, Bats isn't going to get pizza during a bank robbery. just the same, I think some stories have even pointed out how, during a wave of supercrime, normal crime can sneak by. Same basic principle, There are degrees of importance (even to Mr Crazy Pants).
Compact Experience: The counter to that is "more is better". AA was pretty short. I for one would love a longer game.
Lack of Characters: That is a potential issue, but remember that Bats has a massive rogues gallery. And there IS the potential for a few breakouts (or even Two-Face raiding Arkham). Not like his rogues stay locked up for extended periods of time in the comics or TV show(s) :p
