Coelocanth: Lou, not sure. There may be a hak/override to change some things, but can you be more specific about which controls you want to change?
Menelkir: unfortunately, the Premium Modules are no longer available for download. They stopped sales of them some time ago, but you could still DL them if you'd bought them. Recently though, they changed the BioWare store, and you can no longer access them even if you bought them. It's apparently due to Atari and their ongoing issues. Pretty much screwed anyone that bought them and didn't back them up.

Sorry I should have been more specific - The Camera - I know there were three different options but none of them ever felt right for me and it really ruined the game for me. If I could have it use the same camera as in NWN that would be great.

Menelkir: I love the fact that with the latest patch the DVD is no longer required to play, that's a plus. Wish they would do the same for the infinity engine games.
What happened to the "infinite dungeons" premium module, i just went to the page and got an 404. Is it no longer for sale? That thing was awesome.
Also, seconding the guy that said the the best way to play NWN is multiplayer.

Try This Link

Ah, I don't think there's a camera hak. I personally found the Exploration mode almost identical to the original NWN camera for the way I play the game. I guess that one still doesn't cut it for you?
Lou: that link won't work. It says on their Infinite Dungeons DL page that the download is unavailable and directs you back to the developer's (BioWare's) web site. That link takes you to the Error 404 page.

Coelocanth: Delixe: did you get the Critical Rebuild? If you've only got NWN and SoU (I get the impression from your posts that you don't have HotU), then you'll need to go Here. Scroll down to the bottom of Step 2 to grab the Critical Rebuild.
If you do have HotU installed, then go Here. Again, check step 2 for the link.
Hopefully that will get you running.

Yep thats the patch I tried. Still no joy. Guess I will keep tinkering.
I installed NWN1 on my laptop before I moved to japan. With a no-cd patch so i didn't have to bring the cds. But my laptop melted before I ever got to play it, so I know nothing about it.

Atari forced BioWare to take them down. It was the next terrible step from when Atari forced them to stop selling the Premium Mods. There was quite the uproar on the BW forums about it.
I gotta ask something what is you favorite class on the vanilla version of the game?
I personally like the fighter right now, easy to use and I don't die a lot (or not as much as my cleric however that is getting better...I still what more offensive magic for my cleric and where do you get the Hammer of the Gods spell?)

That sucks, i never backed it up or anything, i guess i got screwed. The only premium mods i could find a backup of are Kingmaker and Shadowguard.
MrWilli: My favorite class is a Sorcerer/Red Dragon Disciple. You start as a sorcerer, take some ranks in lore (8points) every time you level up and Wham! prestige class. You start with a few crappy spells and some basic combat skills, but by the time you are trundling through chapter 3 you are death incarnate.
Just for giggles i take the Exotic Weapons Proficiency, Combat Casting(comes with the sorcerer class) and buy a Scythe, don a Necromancer robe and get a phanter for a familiar. Then is a bloody massacre everywhere i go. Fun times!

Delixe, which OS are you on: Vista or 7?

Coelocanth: Delixe, which OS are you on: Vista or 7?

7 64-bit. It's the wierdest thing. I had all but given up with it. Uninstalled, cleaned the registry and rebooted then though to try one final time. Installed NWN then SoU but didn't patch it. Left it at 1.30 I think. Works fine don't even need a compatibility mode and I get no warnings about the s/ware being incompatible. So basically I can play it but I cant patch it. If I was to hazard a guess I would say something is borked in the SecuROM files because it stops working right about the time the vanilla SoU starts reading the disc.
Incidentally out of curiosity I downloaded a ahem.. version of the Diamond edition and exactly the same thing happened after patching it. So yeah I can play it but unpatched.
Delixe, I found a post on the NWN boards that may have a couple things to try:
"I just finished setting up a new computer that came with Vista, but I upgraded to Win 7, with NWN. I encountered numerous hassles, basically all the ones mentioned in this thread.
Problem: NWN says you don't have DirectX installed.
Explanation/Fix: Some Windows installations come with DX 10 or 11 preinstalled, but lack the older DX 9 updates that NWN requires to run. Update DX to get the old drivers, you can use this download:
Problem: NWN loader opens, but the the loadscreen never appears when you click 'play'.
Explanation/Fix: Win 7 has new security features. I'd comment on them, but I'm so new to them that I lack the perspective to say anything intelligent. You need to run the program as an administrator. You can actually set it up to run that way every time, by right clicking on it and selecting Properties. I also gave my user 'Full control' under permissions, for all the NWN exes. This stopped issues with the normal play screen not loading, and with F9 testing in the toolset not working. I did the run as administrator and full control permissions on all the nwn exes, and those problems were resolved.
Problem: You have a 7900 series nvidia, the best nvidia card for playing NWN, and the latest nvidia driver setup package (196.21) is telling you it can't find drivers for your card.
Explanation/Fix: I wish I HAD an explanation. As for the fix, using the update drivers option in Device Manager worked. Using only the default, insta-installed drivers that Win 7 forces on you if you don't have drivers intstalled for th card, you get no 3d rendering; the toolset will refuse to open, and I got 0.8 frames per second in a small area with nothing in it in gameplay. With the updated drivers accessed via the DM update option, I got 118 FPS in that same area...acceptable. Hopefully nvidia will straighten this out soon."
Likely most of this doesn't help, but perhaps there's something in there that will get the bloody thing working for you.

I believe Securom is patched out of the latest version.
It is, i can confirm it, there is no disc check at all. Last version is 1.69.
SecuROM is still there, I believe, but the disc check itself is removed.
*edit* It was actually removed in patch 1.67.

chautemoc: I believe Securom is patched out of the latest version.

It has but obviously the version I have has it. I think there is something going wrong with it's removal. Could be the way the patch works with 7. I just don't know.

NWN pure class? Cleric. Take the Earth domain for the stoneskin spell (incredibly useful).
NWN multiclass? Hmmm... I've had a ton of fun with a ranger/Dwarven Defender.
Oh... and for NWN2, try the Storm of Zehir expansion. It basically radically revises the game and gives you full control of a party of up to 6 characters---and you can design all 6 if you wish.
