Have you gone back to things you used to really enjoy growing up, just out of curiosity? Have you found that most of it was actually pretty terrible, from your perspective now? Or have you instead been surprised to find that a lot of it still holds up to your standards of entertainment?

Star Wars original trilogy still hold up to my standards now, but I can't say the same about Flash Gordon...

Some does, some doesn't. To give a list would be insane.

I'd say that the weight is on the 'terrible' side. Sometimes because it was simply higher tolerance at the time, other times because the bad parts have grated me so far over time. Cutscenes bother me more now than they used to because I've simply seen so many. So so many.

Keep playing old games, when I am on holiday on the original machines be it PC/all of the old consoles I own. They still are uber fun for me.

Most the things that I really loved as a kid I still quite enjoy. That includes games, tv and movies. The stuff from young teens often is a lot worse off for wear (except with games, as my tastes haven't really matured much, I just have a deeper appreciation now).

Maybe that says I am still a child at heart, or that I had good taste as a child.

Oh boy. Out of curiosity I watched an old episode (or two) of He-Man a little while ago. Damn that cartoon is cringe-worthy; let's not even mention Adam's questionable sexuality. Though I was lapping it up when I was growing up. Still one of the best toy marketing ploys aside from Transformers.

Oh, and Dune: awful, sooo awful. How the hell did I ever like that movie? Got to see it again a few years ago and I couldn't stop laughing at the amateurish acting and some of the most ridiculous dialog. Sure, they may have gotten some of the look and feel right, but everything else about it is just the pits.

That said, another cartoon I loved from my childhood 'Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs' was surprisingly watchable still.

Games never had that kind of polarizing effect on me. Either they're good or they're not. Even as a kid I knew a stinker of a game when I saw one. Apparently, that wasn't always the case when it came to movies and TV. ... or music.

The mystical idolization of childhood faves is why something as mind numbingly stupid as Transformers (the cartoon) has become something so mind bogglingly popular (and still as stupid) as Transformers (the movies).

I'm still surprised at how freakin' cool the original Transformers animated movie is. Used to watch it all the time growing up, it's still amazing.

The song sampled for that ad is the title track for that movie.
I always liked it as a kid (saw it in theatre). Revisiting it as an adult, I came to appreciate it on another level. Considering it was a low budget movie, I think they did a decent job of capturing the "camp" of 50's sci-fi TV serials. For example, many have commented on the cheesiness of the special effects but I believe that was the intent as to stay true to that "campiness" of the series' origins. As if they embraced the lack of funds and made it work for them.

For some reason, the youtube link above does not load for a long time, but I do know the soundtrack. In fact it was through that soundtrack that I came to know Queen.

I also did not know that they had low budget for the movie. So I guess that explains the "cheesiness of the special effects". I never watch the television series, though. Not the old ones, and not the new ones. I did read a few Flash Gordon comics, and I can say that the comics still are amazing by today's standards for me.

I still enjoy Turtles, Biker Mice from Mars, and Transformers, though I probably take them less seriously them now than fifteen years ago.

Bought a DVD-Box of both the Turtles animated series and the A-Team out of nostalgia reason some time ago. I still like them.
Although other series (like Knight Rider) are barely watchable for me now. And better let's not talk about the kind of music I was listening to when I was younger. *G*

Concerning games my taste hasn't much changed over the years. I do still own a c-64 as well as an Amiga and play games on both of them, many which I also played in the past (Giana Sisters, Last Ninja, Ultima series ...). When Ultima Underworld arrived on GOG.com that was an instant buy for me and I must say, that it wasn't only nostalgia that made that game (and many others i still play from time to time) so great.
