I was interested in this article because Im a right Retro Head when it comes to games and im Emulator crazy to the point have having a dual X-Arcade joystick with Trackball.

But seriously - £500GBP for this device. Made me think more than twice about it

Im sure its brilliant but the price is silly in this climate
There are already many Neo-Geo Classics that can be bought from the PSN and played on the PSP and PS3

I don't see much point in this myself, personally
0.o Yikes, for that much money I'd rather spend it on OpenPandora

Yep bought an Open Pandora last year

Problem with buying the Pandora at that early stage was the wait for accessories and bug fixes. Even now it has an HDMI port and I wait for the official cable and thats a year in waiting right there

Still its an amazing piece of kit when you consider time and effort and its not build by a huge corporation.

Its almost like waiting for Jeff minter back in the day to do his next game in his back room all by himself - LOL
So does it only play the classic Neo-Geo titles? Because if all it is is a hand held Neo-Geo system then they need to explain why in the world it cost so much. The original Neo-Geo was expensive because it was pushing the limits on what could be done at the time. Can this thing make such a claim? I'm fairly certain all those games could have been played on a Gameboy Advance, and that was some time ago and a lot less money. and if it did play new gen titles I would think it was a bad idea putting such dated titles on it as show pieces.

I believe they have upped the screen resolution so each old Neo Geo (full system) looks as nice as it can on a 5-7 inch screen (not read the full specs when answering LOL) but the cost is because it has a limited manufacturing run like 5000 Units or something silly hence the 500GBP price tag

Its not because of parts - just its Limited Edition

Kind of bad that LOL
I've found at least one poster that thinks the price was a denied rumor, but I have not found any evidence that it is being denied. I also cant find any information as to if the installed games are the only games it will play. If it is it is even less attractive as those are the oldest, and sometimes roughest games. KOF 94 is a nice novelty, and its fun to see the first Fatal Fury, but I would much prefer KOF 98'or 2000, and Mark of the Wolves even if I had to pay for it. If they cant be had then its more of a rich man's novelty toy to toss on an shelf next to R.O.B. the robot and the Virtual Boy.

Then again maybe I just don't understand the collector mindset that seems to frenzy around old Neo-Geo games. I'm looking at a website listing estimated values for genuine Neo-Geo carts of games I own on other systems. Some of them are listed in the thousands of US dollars. I'm fairly certain I didn't pay 600-755 USD for Last Blade 2 on Sega Dreamcast, and I got KOF 2000 bundled with 2001 and they were happy to have me pay 19.99 USD for the pair, not 3000-6000 USD for just the one! Mark of the wolves set me back all of 8 bucks on XBOX live.

I agree. Somebody recently said it looks like a photo shopped Iphone, seems like an accurate description to me
SNK's full library would have to be available for me to even consider paying that much.

As it stands now, why get that when I get the SNK collection(which I already have) for $20 or less?

True. I would like to see more games installed.
500 pounds for a portable that plays only old Neo-Geo games? No way. I could spend that same kind of money on a PSV, wait a bit until someone homebrews a NEO-GEO emulator and just use that.

if they are only making 5000 of these then I get the feeling its for 5000 suckers that have more money than they know what to do with. Just porting the collection(a better collection) to an existing handheld for 19.99 seems like a better option.

I guess they haven't learned from the last time NEO-GEO had a handheld...

Yeah thats more like it.

I had the Neo Geo home unit (MVS i think) and loved it to bits as it reeked quality
The Cartridges were like £100GBP each but you just knew it wasent a port and was the actual roms as used in the arcades (never owned the CD unit but heard it was not bad)

Of course Amigas and PC's soon took my interest and it had to go but I remember the joy I had with it as a teenager.

Never owned the handhelds - it never took my fancy.

Now this from SNK, I will be passing on the offer - just like all here if thats all it plays, if this is a sealed unit with no options for other games or expandability and if the price is £500GBP because it has a limited run, then they can count me out
Its confirmed

Uses an SD card for expansion and has TV out features - Still wont turn me as its £500GBP
