Wow - just finished advent rising, which I bought a few days ago, because of the insanely small price tag, I have actually never heard of it before. And boy was I amazed! Not at first but it grows on you and with a cliffhanger ending like that:WE NEED A SEQUAL!! I know that Glyphx games had to close its doors after the poor sales of (wonder why!?) advent rising, but gears of war stuido epic's little child chair entertainment (makers of undertow and shadow complex) actually consists of a large portion of former glyphicx staff. So what do u think: is there a chance that epic and chair revives the planned trilogy or do we fans have to live in oblivion? Give me some hope plz!!
Yeah, I think that the game was supposed to be a part of a trilogy or something. That's the problem with over-ambitious games. Even Half Life 2 never saw its concluding episode.

I'm kinda wondering if ep3 kinda grew outta hand and is now just HL3

I don't think it so much grew out of hand as there's no way that they can now release a third episode now. They had to admit that the episodic content failed and move on. Which means that a full sequel is the only way to go.
why did it fail, didnt the episodes sell any good or what? cant imagine taht everyone keeps talking about how the half life games are the best games ever made!

They were supposed to be released 6 months apart ;)

I definitely agree, and I would also guess adding in some kind of online aspect to the game has delayed it as well. I don't think Valve would release a purely singleplayer game in modern times, I just don't see them doing it. Which is a bummer IMO.

You might be right as there was that tacked on Deathmatch thing with the original HL2.

But even if we use Steam's top sellers as a guide, you've got Shogun 2, Saints Row 3, Skyrim, Anno 2070 - none of which many people are going to be buying for the multiplayer, or even be swayed by the fact that there is one (where there is one). Only Nuclear Dawn and MW3 are purely multiplayer games. So all in all there does appear to be a large consumer base for single player only games and I reckon Valve are aware of that.

Sure, they may have made a tidy sum from L4D and TF2 now they've got the hats. But HL2 deathmatch was largely ignored. They'd need to do something pretty special to turn that around. I'm not saying it's impossible or even unlikely. But it's the kind of thing that will be difficult to make popular and I think there's enough logic and reason in Valve to see the truth in that.
Skyrim really shows you don't need multiplayer to sell a fuck ton of copies, but companies won't listen. I bet the online focus in the industry gets greater and greater.
I'm going to try take this thread in a 'what games do you think should have had a sequel and didn't' direction
I'm voting 'Outcast' hell, that game should have spawned a dynasty of sequels and Cutter Slade should be up there with Gordon Freeman and Lara Croft for famous chars -
If you haven't got it by now I really like Outcast! (and PS:T)

Great, I'm 31 now and if I'm lucky they might release it before I die.
I played half-life 2 and episodes (this year).. ep1 was awesome ep2 sucked.. If I never see ep 3, that sucks.
But if sequels again.. Broken sword 5 and gabriel knight 4. Broken might happen. Secret files 3 is happeningb (which is great). Metal gear with PC, don't even get me started. And if it doesn't have Snake it doesn't have anything.

Nah, I don't think new Outcast would be possible and if, only with a new character and completely new setting. Agreed that it's fantastic thou.
We also could use one Discworld again.
