blotunga: Well, on his list were cool fantasy movies. So this is one :D
Oh, I wasn't disputing your recommendation; if anything, I second it. It was a completely valid suggestion. I was only trying to explain why it might not immediately come to mind.

karacho: Hi there,
I am a big movie buff, but maybe there are movies "under my radar" so to speak, maybe you have some good tips for me i just didnt think of.

Basically i am searching all kinds of movies or tv shows that are about fantasy and history. But not any fantasy or history, i want to have some swordfighting or battles in it.

Good examples would be Conan the Barbarian, Lord of the rings, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heavens, Game of Thrones, Record of Lodoss War, Braveheart.

Maybe even stuff like Seven Samurai, but i am more into western kind of swords in the moment. I mean nobody is angry at you if you recommend me some good japanese samurai flick, but if you have some western historical battle epic, or a really cool fantasy movie in your head, plz tell me.

I dont care if movie, tv show, anime, miniseries, western animation. I pretty much watch everything.
Any robin hood (he's not only using a bow), three musketeer or basically swashbuckling movie from the early days.
I'd recommend watching movies involving Erol Flynn.
Also, a little known movie:
Fanfan the tulipe ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044602/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 )

edit: also another french movie, the black tulip:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058692/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Yes :)). Seeing De Niro in a tutu was worth it all :))
- Rob Roy
- The Duellists
- Joan of Arc

tinyE: Centurion.

It's nowhere near as good as the other titles mentioned so far but it's a good flick with some cool (albeit unrealistic) jabs at Roman history.
At least you didn´t recommend "Titus" :P

Don't tempt me. :P I'm tempted to throw Zardoz out there too.

OOOPS! I just did! :O

One of the most entertaining I've seen.

Other recommendation: The last valley.
What about:

Curse of the Ring aka Ring of the Nibelungs
Krull

Stardust is a good one.
Thanks again everybody, there is lots of material to look at for me, i am sure there will be some stuff i diont know yet that i will really like.

Also i once saw an ep or two of spartacus and didnt like that, but i will try again now, because it fits really good into the stuff i am looking for at the moment. ^^

Wel... In anime you can look for this:

- Maoyu
- Scrapped Princess
- The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
The Spartacus series are very good and tick all the right boxes. Definitely not for the faint hearted, mind.

Fenixp: Well, as you have mentioned Game of Thrones, I'm gonna assume you don't mind series recommendations. With that in mind - The Borgias. Personally, I rate it right next to Game of Thrones currently - it's clever and the theme of one of the most despotic Popes is quite intriguing to say the least.

As for fights and swordfights, well.. About as much focus on that as in GoT, really.
Bloody hell that series is good! I don't know if I'd put it right up alongside GoT. But only because there's nothing I'd put up alongside GoT. But it is bloody good all the same.
boorman's excalibur

possibly the only faithful adaptation of arthurian cycles

(also princess bride has a swordfight)
King Arthur (2004)
Starred by Clive Owen & Keira Knightley. There are so many versions about King Arthur. The movie took a more historical one.
(aka entirely historically bullshit)
