Ok, I recently found out that 2 games I purchased from Steam can only be played in German. I purchased the games thinking they can be played in English. I'm not interested in playing games in Deutsch. The store pages for these 2 games do not mention anywhere that you can not play these 2 games in English. The store pages for the 2 games have written under the game details section "Languages: English". I would of assumed the games don't offer English if there wasn't "English" written somewhere on the store pages. So I hope you people understand why I thought the 2 games and expansion can be played in English? Well I contacted Steam support about the 2 games, explaining my problem and that I want to exchange the games for store credit or I want Steam to fix this problem for me. I just recieved a reply about one of the games(Titan Quest Gold). They said

"Hello,

A staff member has replied to your question:

Hello_____, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Users are made aware of this issue on the store page for this title. As with most software products, we do not offer refunds or exchanges on games, DLC or in-game items purchased on our website or through the Steam Client. Please review Section 4 of the Steam Subscriber Agreement for more information. http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=subscriber_agreement We will make an exception for pre-ordered games if the request is received prior to the release date. "

So do I just give up and accept that I wasted money? Or do I reply and tell them they are wrong?

Titan Quest Gold Is in english whats the other game?
Kane & Lynch 2 Dog Days. My Titan Quest Gold is only in German. :( I didn't download and try Immortal Throne though so there is a chance, my Titan Quest Gold is half German. But that still sucks, in my opinion.

I've never heard of them forcing a language on anyone depending on their region (well, except for that guy who posts here who lives in Japan and complains about Mafia II a lot - sorry for not remembering your name) so this is a bit weird...

My copy of K&L2 only has English, Spanish, Italian and French available...

I think you can swap the dialog.arc and sound.arc files to get the english voice back.

need to swap the files for both TQ and TQIT to get all voice back to english though.

I dont have TQ installed atm and not sure where my discs are, but iirc they're both pretty large files. Does anyone have the games installed and can toss those files up for dl?
Everyone in the world gets normal versions of games except the Germans and the Japanese, I think.

Hmm, that reply they gave you appears to be a stock reply because your message included the word 'refund' or 'exchange'. Try asking how you can play it in English, include a screen capture of the page where it says it's in English. Don't give up on this man! I've had similarly uncooperative people from Steam so I feel your pain.

Is that legal? This is embarassing but how do I make a screen capture?

its just localisation stuff afaik. Normal disc version comes with all that, so any reason why it wouldn't be?

Edit: Ah, found the link I was after before. This thread is years old and the dl links don't work anymore, but it tells you exactly what you need
http://www.titanquest.net/tq-forum/threads/12943-Why-is-IT-not-multilingual

Seriously, you ever have issues with TQ, go to titanquest. net first

Edit: Edit: and just to save you having to read all that thread, relevant info:

Place Text_EN.arc into Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest\Text
Place Dialog.arc into Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest\Audio

Place ITText_EN.arc into Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest Immortal Throne\Resources and rename it Text_EN.arc, then place ITDialog.arc into Program Files\THQ\Titan Quest Immortal Throne\Resources\XPack and rename it Dialog.arc.

Keep bugging them and bring up politely but firmly that the store page said it had English but it does not and that this is false advertising.

I bet they eventually give in. Getting refunds from Steam for legitimate issues is all about harassing them basically, from what I have read. Whatever you do don't refute the charge with your credit card company or bank though, even if you are right. Valve ban any account that files a charge dispute even if it's legitimate.
I just figured out how to make a screenshot of what I need. Thanks everyone for all the helpful responses, I appreciate it.

Why does that not surprise me??
I hate posts like this... It seems the guy has a 100% legit issue, and he can't get a resolution because he is stuck trading email back and forth.

I've resolved a lot of issues with email with a lot of companies, including Steam once, but a thing like this would get solved in 20 minutes if a human being were available to talk to the customer.

Has anyone ever spoken to Steam? Is that even possible?
