keeveek: The EA's license for using real names of cars and their designs in NFS Porsche is probably already expired, so I wouldn't expect that to come.
avatar
kmonster: Since it's only one manufacturer it shouldn't be too hard to get the allowance.
If EA is willing to pay again for the license , than not at all, but I can hardly see it coming.
avatar
Fever_Discordia: Not sure if I can see that happening DRM free and i definitely can't see it happening with DRM enabled!
Depending on how old these 'new' NFSs are allowed to be...
DRM isn't the major issue here (although I agree that with EA it's a very significant one). The major issue is EA having the rights to sell those games. Most of them they won't be able to sell anymore due to license expiry.

It won't. Unless EA managed to strike up one hell of a deal that game is long gone, just like the majority of their racing and sports games.

BoxOfSnoo: I think EA still retains the exclusive Porsche rights.
LOL, no. Plenty of car games have Porsches in them.

I don't think the license would be a problem. NFS:Porsche Unleashed offers free promotion. Maybe GoG could even pay the license fee per copy directly if demanded.

If Porsche were a local toy company and GOG were selling these games out of a suitcase that their friend, EA, was producing in their bedroom then, yeah, I can see how that might be a realistic perspective.

Back in the real world, it's more likely that EA would simply invest tens of millions of dollars in producing another NFS Porshe game.

Which doesn't seem at all likely at the moment.

Yeah, the Project Gothams are packed full of them and they are MS in house productions

Yeah, i want Porsche Unleashed too. This and Hot Pursuit 2 were the titles from the series that i couldn't play at all since they already dumped software rendering mode.

Um... (sadly) yes. If they have it, they sublicensed from EA. Look it up. Here's a link for you.

... what?

What?

Porsche, have you no brain? This is not how you license things.

Exactly! At least they did produce one quality game at the beginning... I have heard rumblings that the deal expires at the end of this year, so hopefully we'll see a new DLC pack for stuff like GT5 shortly. I'd buy that in a snap.

What the hell were they thinking? EA have done bugger all with that license aside from that one game.
You know, I was going to suggest EAs other car franchise - Burn Out because they never used any real world cars in those things BUT looking it up on Mobygames they ALSO never ported any of them to PC! Damn!

Well there's Burnout Paradise.
