I think my favorite thing about all this is seeing DK 1 and 2 climb the best-seller list on GOG. I'll be curious to see if Evil Genius makes an appearance there. It was never as good as Dungeon Keeper, but it did have potential, and there are some solid mods available for it.

The only saving grace to this scenario is that the developers actually seem to give a crap about a self-contained product in the long run. The POS mobile abortion masquerading as a real Dungeon Keeper game is nothing but them trying to ream people for money. No eye on a bigger prize, no giving a crap about people's desire for a real sequel to the first two, just them fisting Dungeon Keeper's corpse and trying to put on a ventriloquist's show with it.

I concur. The funny thing is that microtransaction games don't tend to do well in the states. A lot of publishers try to attract a market from different countries. Facebook once had a real kick ass version of Uno that was pulled. I'm not sure what happened (the game never had any major bugs and was a lot of fun) but I'm guessing the publisher had no way to monetize it and then ended the beta for the game. There are so many Mafia Wars and Farmville clones on fb I'm surprised the people playing never scratch their heads and say "gee this game looks awfully the same...". When you monetize game elements there is a tendency to not balance the paid for material with the game. So either the user ends up with a useless paid for item or an item so powerful, there is really no point to playing.
