You see I would love to play some old school crpgs, but I have poor eyesight. Playing Games like Baldur's Gate or Fallout with the widescreen mod end or even without it leads to extremely tiny text. This really hurts my eyesight and get horrible headaches.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good solid CRPG but perhaps more modern so that text isn't ridiculously small. Or maybe you know any mods for old school rpgs that increase the font size

Yeah i know this is a weird request, but I'm in a big mood for a hardcore traditional crpg like baldur's gate
Are you in it for the story, or do RPG mechanics matter?

Also, what's your minimum threshold for font size?

Well I would like both a good story and good rpg mechanics. But I'm in the mood for a good tale. So I'm willing to sacrifice the rpg mechancis a bit
Oh i'm looking for at least 14 size font
btw my monitor resolution is 1920x1080

Community mods sound like the solution to your problem. Poor eyesight is not that uncommon among gamers and while old games had shitty accessibility, there are some clever folks who've made at least some of them more accessible.

Have you tried the Bigger Fonts for BGII mod? I don't know if that's good enough for you - if the text is too big it apparently becomes problematic - but I wouldn't be playing BG1/2 today (on a 1920x1080 monitor) without that mod as the original text size gives me a headache too.
I hate the small fonts too. I get around it by running the game at a lower resolution. It doesn't look as "sharp" as running it at the native resolution, but I think there is a certain charm to running older games at lower resolutions.

Diablo and Diablo II would be playable with poor eyesight.

Do you use contact lenses or glasses btw?

Planescape Torment would be playable I think if you installed the widescreen mod and raised the size of the text using that to a far larger size.

Thanks for the advice guys
My advice is just to play at a lower resolution. It's tempting to play games at 1920x1080 when your monitor can do 1920x1080, but god, I don't know how anybody can read the text while maintaining a comfortable distance from the screen. I just commented the other day when I saw a friend of mine playing and uploading Deus Ex screenshots on Steam. I always wondered if there was some popular hud mod I wasn't able to find, but it seems there are indeed people playing with microscopic text and huds.

Try setting a horizontal width between 800 and 1024. That's what these older games were typically designed around, it's not much of a surprise that doubling or tripling the resolution makes things rather awkward. Go for 1280 max. You don't get as huge of a view of the surrounding area, but you can always toggle the hud with H in Baldur's Gate if you need to.
imma playing BG2 at 1680x1050 resolution on 1080 monitor at the moment and it works great. i did use bigger font i think it was 120%
here is a screenshot

i do have two black bars at the side (can't really see those 30 black pixels on the bottom)
You might look into playing DOS games using a high-multiple scaler setting.

Ultima 7 running under Exult is probably a good bet.
What about older RPGs like Wasteland and Pool of Radiance? Most of the text that comes up is usually quite big and easy on the eyes.

If you don't mind aged games, I recommend those two and Dark Sun Shattered Lands.

Same problem here. I also can only recommend playing at the standard resolution (depending on your tft it still looks fine) and for the Infinity-Engine games (Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale) using the font-mod. I need to check that, but I believe there is a similar mod for Arcanum too (better check the subforum). Not on gog, but I really found the font style and size in Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines well done for us moles ;-)

Also take a look at some of the older dos games like the Might and Magic, Lands of Lore, Ultima or Realms of Arcania series. Thanks to the graphic filters you can play them windowed three times bigger then the original resolution but still great looking (if you like that old style, of course). You can also define the window-size, but to use the filter options is always the better and more nice looking solution.

Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition will be released in 2 months. That will solve your problem with small fonts.

Playing Baldurs Gate and Fallout on 1080p resolution is a mistake. That way art and characters become very very small. You can not enjoy the game fully that way. I suggest you to play BG with 1024x768 or better with 800x600. This will solve all your problems and you will enjoy the game fullest.
