There has been some talk here of Necrovision lately. I've never played the game but I think I just discovered a movie that is similar to Necrovision(WW1 soldiers against supernatural forces). The name of the movie is Deathwatch. So far, I've only watched 1/3 of the movie but so far it is good.
It's a fun little movie (I knew it as "the trench"), but quite forgettable.

I only have it because I basically collect movies about haunted stuff (haunted tape, haunted cello, haunted camera, haunted phone, haunted submarine, haunted trench... i can't stand an object, vehicle or location to not have a related "haunted __" film in my collection).

Oddly, it's one of the very few Carpenter I don't have. Not sure why. Maybe because it was too familiar, I never thought of acquiring that object (one of these acquisitions you always delay because you always feel you already have it, so you buy another one). It's a pretty good adaptation though (I have the novel), and mentionning it makes me want to re-watch it.

I don't have the ghost ship movie either, though. It may be because that one was a tad too actually bad. I should get it too, some day, just for the tick on the list.
I thought Necrovision is what people use when they seek out and bump old threads?

;)

langurmonkey: Why?
Because

1) i like ghosts

2) imagining the development process going "hey, i have an idea for a movie, it's about a ___, and it is HAUNTED" makes me laugh each time. it's like the longest running joke of fantasy scriptwriting.

Congratulations. You have just created the Haunted Underscore.

It will now wander the Internet forever, always on the lookout for another word to swallow. It's feeding mechanism is quite devious: First it presents itself to the unsuspecting human reader, and transplants itself into his brain. The human now acts as a carrier. Whenever the Haunted Underscore senses a word that it would like to swallow, it makes the human carrier think that that word must not be typed. Instead of typing it, the carrier then writes a sequence of underscores. This is also the mechanism by which the Haunted Underscore spreads itself ... until all humans are carriers, and all written conversation consists of nothing but underscores.

And it's all your fault! ;)

Battle Heater is worth it for the lols if you don't have it, about a demonic/possessed Kotatsu. Still waiting for the UK version with a haunted radiator.

Necrovision was great. Fun to the bone.

Does Deathwatch have anything to do with Nightwatch or whatever it was called?
I don't know, I thought Ghost Ship was pretty good, Triangle too, though that was more a mind and time/space bender than an actual "haunting".

I've never played Necrovision but I have heard it's a lot of fun.

It's like playing The Evil Dead in a very epic game scenario.

Basically you can dual-wield shovels with Mauzers, torches with swords, grenades, ect.... and blast the living shit out of zombies and German soldiers. It's gorgeous to look at also surprisingly and it is quite fluid when ti comes to gameplay. My only complaint with it is that headshots don't always kill your targets.

Hmm, might have to pick up the dual pack one of these days...

Lol, yeah, I had seen Deathwatch a couple of years before NecroVision was released. Indeed, the premise is quite similar. I don't think that Deathwatch is very good, though, and sadly NecroVision is worse, IMO.

I was really looking up to NecroVision as it was developed by several guys from the original Painkiller team and even used an improved version of its engine - sadly they botched lots of stuff. It's like they couldn't decide whether to create a simple crazy shooter or another warshooter and the result is a mediocre mess inlcuding awful writing (and inconsistencies in the plot).

Fun fact: the game has basically the same "kill with skill" system as Bulletstorm, it only wasn't advertised this way. Someone must have thought it up at People Can Fly before some of the guys went on to found The Farm51. It's funny that Bulletstorm's marketing presented this as something totally new and awesome while the mediocre NecroVision had the same thing a couple of years earlier.
