I just want to see it broken down more. See what the percentage is by genre, platform, and amount of time per week or something. Does anyone have a link to that?

This report could be including Solitaire and Minesweeper. It could count someone as a gamer if they have played a game in the last 6 months. I want more info.
How many of those are regular players though just play Angry Birds and Candy Crush on their phones and have barely, or even ever, touched a console or PC game in their life?

Because what the media sees and what the many online communities see are two different opinions of what gamers are.

AdamR: Call me a dick, but I generally don't believe any reports about gamer demographics. They are all wildly different, and use different parameters. You can find one that says 25% of gamers are female, and another report that says it is 60%.

Then I see these reports about the average age of a gamer... A while ago, it was reported by everyone that the average gamer was 37 years old. I think it turned out that 37 was the average age for purchasing games, not playing them, which would make much more sense. I could be wrong.

And what defines a gamer? My mom plays Solitaire on her Kindle. I wouldn't call her a gamer, but I am assuming that studies like this would.

So, I generally take these studies and reports with a grain of salt.

Typically when a 50-50 is found it includes ALL games, including facebook and phone games.

Not sure if there's any information one the ratio when it comes to core gamers. Consoles, PC (not facebook).

langurmonkey: This survey doesn't really tell us much.
It does if you read it.
My wife is a "video gamer" and yet all she does is occasionally play Candy Crush when waiting in line for something.

The term is kind of pointless now.

No, it really doesn't, at least not the information people are asking for. I read the survey and at no point does it break down who was playing what. it breaks down what, and breaks down who, separately.

Men and women, boys and girls of any ethnicity and sexual orientation buy and play games of all genres. Though a breakdown of genre by gender, ethnicity and orientation may or may not be interesting, it is not terribly useful information.

You're insane if you don't think gender has a huge impact on what type of games are played. That information would make it clear just how relevant this supposed "50/50" split is.
They musta taken a very small sample. Most of my friends are females, and i only know like 2 out of all of them who play games...

It's 2013, subpar attempts at shaming argumentation don't usually work on people anymore.
Fair play is fair. :)
Hey, I only play games on my PC and not candy stuff!
Paragraph 1:
A new report suggests adult women are nearly half of all video game players.
Paragraph 2:
Adult women make up 31% of the game-playing population.

Go on.
but how many percent of dark souls players are women, that's the real question
