I just read an interesting article about the growth and size of the female market for computer and video games that I thought some here would find interesting, from CNN.com.

I didn't realize it was almost 50/50 at this point in gaming. I'm glad to see that.

Not surprising at all, to be honest. I think the term may be a bit broader for women, but there's plenty of 'em out there and plenty of room in the hobby for 'em too!

Nah but seriously, gaming's been in the mainstream for a couple of years now, this is hardly surprising.

See maybe I'm a freak but the whole Goth chick thing is a major turn on for me. She is actually kind of ugly but man does she get my dogs barking.

Call me a dick, but I generally don't believe any reports about gamer demographics. They are all wildly different, and use different parameters. You can find one that says 25% of gamers are female, and another report that says it is 60%.

Then I see these reports about the average age of a gamer... A while ago, it was reported by everyone that the average gamer was 37 years old. I think it turned out that 37 was the average age for purchasing games, not playing them, which would make much more sense. I could be wrong.

And what defines a gamer? My mom plays Solitaire on her Kindle. I wouldn't call her a gamer, but I am assuming that studies like this would.

So, I generally take these studies and reports with a grain of salt.
