Hi Sting, not sure how that follows?
You won't see me arguing against more data and better statistics...
langurmonkey: Well it all depends on the tastes of the female games in the future. If their tastes become close to mine, then my fear is not illogical. Then there will be more profit in making the type of games I like, cater to both genders(which means it not really catering to anyone) instead of catering to males. It's impossible to please everyone to a point with one game where everyone will love it. That is fact. One of the games I love, Vampire - Bloodlines, obviously caters to males. If back then, 50% of PC RPG gamers were females, there is a good chance, a lot of things would of been changed in this game or cut out(to make it more female friendly). Then it wouldn't be as good in my eyes. Equality doesn't work when it comes to entertainment, sorry.
Langur,
Let's be clear, because you pretty much repeated your argument instead of responding to my counter.
Your fear is that as women become the focus of games producers, there will be less games you like.
Let's say we had a million male gamers, zero female, and 5 games you liked (per year).
In future let's assume same million male gamers and 2 million female gamers.
How many games will you like?
You say/expect less than now. While I say chances are good that with 3Mill total gamers, there will be more total games made, and so you may even have more games you like.
Likewise your example of a specific game does not prove anything. Even if you're right and V:B would be different (not to your taste), how can you be sure there would be nothing else done for your tastes?
So again: your fear is illogical, and likely groundless.
I wonder if there are other means of entertainment which women consume on parity to men?
If your argument is right I guess you won't find male catered stuff in those media.
What do you think, are books, movies, tv shows consumed by all genders equally on average?
Does that mean there are no such media catering to men?
(heck... porn, by itself, pretty much makes my argument)
