DMTrev: I'm writing my Bill O'Rielly style--"We'll do it live!"--so I couldn't give you much of the plot in advance because I don't really know.

Um: military steampunkish fantasy where a newly-forged empire finds that its emperor has been killed and the next in line to the throne manages to escape his execution and now needs to try to organize the army, put down the rebellion, and restore order to the empire before it crumbles entirely. Half a continent away, his newlywed wife (and sister to the deceased emperor) finds herself a target in this succession war, and she is not amused at all.

EDIT: I'm trusting on a decade's experience as a DM to help me BS my way through the whole thing. We'll see how it goes.

Gibush: Lots of potential stories to make up with that premise! I figure if you're doing it Bill O'Reilly style, it's best to have a giant, epic sounding plot like that, so you can make lots of stuff up and add to it.
Hah. Thanks.

Okay peeps! Word count check? Are you committed? Are you committed?

(Jeez, you say, this guy should be commited.)

Possibly, but that's not the point. How's it coming along for you who are participating?
Still at 10,041. I decided not to write yesterday, and today I have a doctor's appointment. To that I saw: Screw you, I don't have to write today or yesterday, I did 10k on the first day! I'll probably just do some more marathon sessions in the next few days and it should be done. I kind of want to finish before Skyrim because then, obviously, life = over.

Just banging away at the keyboard? Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I do have a story idea about a guy who wonders the multiverse. The problem is the character is based on me and his whole reason for existing is so that I can put myself in my favorite games, books, shows, and movies.

Do it, we're not exactly writing a wonderful piece of literature in 30 days.

Can you do that? The whole time I've been writing I've been purposely not mentioning real life things. Like, is it OK to put Bram Stoker in my novel?

I'm mainly concerned because even thought it's gonna suck hard, I want to buy that proof paperback or whatever that they offer later, and perhaps they have to review it and look for copyrighted situations or something. I know nothing however, so maybe someone could inform me. A quick google seems to say that as long as you keep things factual and don't write badly about a real person, etc, you should be fine.
400 words. eh Lazy.

If you just want the proof, you definitely can, however if you want to distribute the copies, then you have to start worrying about copyrights.

Personally, I think that just writing something, especially something that can't be published helps a lot with the writer's block. Most of the time if you lower your standards enough you can find something to type that will continue the story.

C'mawn! You only have to do less than 2,000 words a day to get it done by the end!'

Yeah. I'm trying to find ways to keep the story from ending, especially since there isn't much of a story to begin with. So I've started throwing in many many side stories and nearly unrelated character flashbacks. Muahaha! It would be annoying for someone to read, but it's a bit fun to write.

Anyway, to do with the copyright - according to NaNoWriMo forums, the CreateSpace (publisher) offer won't be confirmed until the 25th (I think), but people are saying that you might not be able to get the free proof anymore, you might have to pay for it to be made and shipped (people are mad y'all), but also that if you do that, then you can also get 5 free copies, not of the proof, but of the "finished product". However, and I'm still very confused about this, you might be handing over some rights if you agree to get the 5-for-1 deal. Which isn't even confirmed. So don't trust me.

Eh....I'm just really hard on myself on writing.

And I constantly get distracted by youtube.

If it helps at all, though, the website even says it's all about quantity. They say it will just get you writing, and even if it's not good, you should have improved as a writer. Or something like that. I, myself, am I just doing it for no reason. I never said I was a writer.

Yeah I know I am slowly trying to be less judgemental of my writing because I've seen some of my peers writing and well....I feel like a Henry Thouerau in comparision.
A couple days later, and I'm only at 12, 651. It seemed I used up all my absurd nonsense in one day-long go. Hmm.

Must
Find
A
Plot
It has to be somewhere.

Anyway, once I get to 40k I plan on beginning the padding process. I will add 10k of Foreward, Preface, Afterword, Footnotes, and Dedications.
