Do any of you perhaps know of or remember a game called NAM, released for MS-DOS back in 1998? It ran on the famous Build Engine that most people know from Shadow Warrior, Blood, Duke Nukem 3D and so on. It was a war FPS set during the Vietnam war, I've played through it myself and very much enjoyed it. There isn't much about it on the internet at all, so I was curious as to what people have to say about it.

I remember reading about NAM in magazines back in the day, and I've always wanted to play it but never got around to it. It sold surprisingly well as I recall. Apparently, the team also made World War II GI, another Build engine war game, and were working on an Unreal engine game called 1941, that was supposed to be similar to Hidden and Dangerous. I'm gonna try to find out whatever happened to the team that made the game.

I remember PC Gamer (UK) reviewing this: the reviewer thought the Build engine was a surprisingly effective choice for representing the confusion of warfare, since the blocky sprites and dingy palettes left the player firing 'blindly, unable to tell friend from foe from bits of wood' (quoted from memory, probably inaccurately).

I think I downloaded it years ago. It was billed as a total conversion for Duke Nukem 3D. All I remember is tall grass and crazy dudes with satchel charges charging at me.

I can't in good conscience play a game based on that endeavor. I know this isn't the time or place for an editorial but too late now. :D

Hated it. Started as a TC, should have stayed that way.

Same people made another game called WW2 GI, also on the Build engine. Didn't like that one either.

Both NAM and WWII GI are quicksave shooters, like walking sections of Shogo.
