F4LL0UT: Too bad. It's surprisingly fun and original. I wish these days Rockstar would try coming up with such games.
nah they are too busy with dour sprawling sandbox games where humor is out of the qustion
If you are from Poland you can buy Myth Anthology dirty cheap here. You have to pay 20 PLN (~4.8€ or ~5.95$) + delivery cost. Hurry up only 5 pieces remain. I have the same version and it runs flawlessly on Win 7. The only problem is that those games are much harder then I remembered ;) On the other hand my RTS skills are not as good as they used to be... ;P

rampancy: Myth TFL and Myth 2 were some of the best (if not the first) fully 3D RTT games (well, the terrains were 3D, but the units were 2D sprites).

Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat - 1995
Powermonger - 1990

Myth was awesome but let's not give Bungie too much credit. :P
Heh. Well, it's always good to learn something new everyday. :)

Tallima: I bought some discs for way-too-cheap off of Amazon last year. I've never played 3 (I heard it was rubbish) but 1 and 2 were grand games.
Myth III wasn't really as bad as some people say (IMO, of course). It messed around quite a bit with the lore (a shame, as one of the strengths of the franchise was the rich and interesting lore of the Myth universe, particularly surrounding The Leveler mythos), which pissed off a lot of fans.

The real problem IMO with Myth III was that it was fundamentally broken on release, due to Take Two pushing a rushed release schedule with Mumbo Jumbo. To his credit, IIRC the lead programmer tried to step up by providing bug fixes and major updates in his spare time, but eventually it wasn't sustainable, due to a lack of interest. Sad, as the last 1.4 patch doesn't work on OS X Mavericks or later, and I have no idea if the 1.3.1 patch works on Win 7/8.

Yes!!! I loaded up Myth 1 to show a friend, a game that I could destroy when I was younger. I couldn't get past the first map without massive casualties.

I never beat any of those games, though. I remember that I couldn't get past the the library in Myth 2 and I can't remember my stopping point on Myth 1. I got further in 1 than 2, but still nowhere near the end.

And I was terrible at multiplayer matches. I probably played 100 matches and never won even once.

But I still loved those games!

I have to point out a few things - first, it's (a horribly translated) Polish version. And Second - Myth is not a RTS. Myth 1 also doesn't have hardware acceleration out of the box, you need source ports for that. And the difficulty in these games has always been very high. The first time I played Myth 2 on Legendary I capitulated at "Landing at White Falls".

I actually finished the first one back in 90s and reached final mission in the second but sadly my CD was corrupted and couldn't finish it. Now I have this anthology and I've struggled through 2/3 of the Fallen Lords and decided to take a break.

I can probably guess what was your mistake - you kept archers in one group. In such a case two or three ghouls can sneak through your warriors and kill them all. If you spread your archers around ghouls can catch and kill one of them but then they have to move to get another one and then your remaining archers can take them down (and you can get some warriors there too!). It's one of the most important strategies in this game. Keeping your archers alive is crucial because XP that your units gain is carried to the next mission but only if this unit is present in next mission. For a dwarf it's not a common situation (so you will have to train him from the beginning every time he appears anyway) but you get archers in most (if not all, I don't remember) missions. Having a few skilled snipers can win the battle...

Weird, I remember 2 actually being much easier than 1. Guess I have to replay them again to check ;-), and perhaps give the third one another chance.

Yeah, that way I said "if you are from Poland". The translation leaves a lot to be desired, no doubt about that but it's better then not having the game at all.

Yeah, Myth is RTT but actually I've only said that my RTS skills are worse, never called Myth RTS :P And it's the same set of skills that are needed for RTT. But joking aside, you are right, my bad.

It's RTT (Real Time Tactics - no resource management or base building, more focus on troop control like using formations).

I'm talking about something I played 15ish years ago, so take it with a grain of salt. I remember M2 had larger armies to deal with. M1 had a lot of levels where you just had a rag-tag collection of heroes. But the controls in M2 were better and the armies easier to negotiate.

on the genre, It was RTT but with a very strong resource component: your team. Each time a character killed a creature, he'd gain a level. So you had to be very careful with your human(or elven or dwarven :D) resources to keep your best men going on to the next the level.

But of course, there were no resource-gathering things like typical RTSes.

&#!!@% you're right : D that's what you get from being too quick
Myth is an absolute must (at least the first two parts!)

I think it's one of the best strategy games of all-time - if not the best.

Full of character, interesting units (+counter-units), ballistics and top notch presentation all the way through.

It isn't particularly difficult to get it to run with the files found on the tain

The only problem is... *everytime* someone mentions it I feel the urge to replay it again! (for the archers & dwarfs!)

(...just where did it put those CD's ?)
