CrashToOverride: If you actually read my posts. My OPINION is that the VIRAL ADVERTISING STRATEGY is a way for developers to drum up interest in a game/etc that they are worried about. THAT IS ALL.

Yes, but you yourself said, viral marketing is used because it is much stronger advertising than other forms. So it is more advertising. So why would someone want to use a more effective advertising method?

Gundato: Then why are most ... Sci-Fi Original Pictures movies almost never advertised?

Well that one is not a good example. From what I remember Sci-Fi original movies are constantly (and annoyingly) advertised. Sometimes with huge icons and banners in the corner of the screen. Every now and then I'll try watching one, thinking hey maybe they've gotten better. Then my brain starts to feel mushy.

I don't know, maybe because they are worried their product will be shit and they want to use a medium that makes people think more than a ad or commercial? And your two definitions of "More advertising" are completely different. There is a "More" as in quantity, and a "More" as in the level of intellectual thought.

So those who put more effort into advertising think that their product is going to flop?
All my previous counter-points stand :p

CrashToOverride: Cloverfield was definitely not the EPIC OMG MOVIE OF THE YEAR that they were advertising it as. And it got a lot more bad reviews than good ones, both from professional reviewers and regular people. Nice try goading btw, you should try it on someone who actually cares :)

The Cloverfield that has a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes got more bad reviews than good ones? Are you sure you don't want to rethink that statement?

Once again..if you actually read my posts. My OPINION is that developers use VIRAL ADVERTISING for the sole purpose that it PROVOKES MORE THOUGHT ABOUT THE PRODUCT is a good sign that they MIGHT BE WORRIED about their product. Don't think I could make it any clearer ":p"

And my point is that you continue to assert an opinion that seems to have no real grounding :p. Unless the judicious use of caps-lock is the grounding.
No grounding? Viral Advertising does not make you think even a little more than regular ads/commercials? And developers could never ever use the Viral path because they think their own product won't garner enough attention via the normal ways, right? Wow..maybe you better look up what grounding means. And besides, it's and opinion, you don't like it? Big deal.
And your "Judicious use of :p"
