Well, it's going to work on a shitty XBOX ONE and PS4. I have a toaster with more memory than those, so I guess you will be able to play at last with minimum details.
I ain't going back to console hell that's for sure :(

My computer does pretty much everything I built it for(play older games).. I just didn't expect TW3 to be so damn good looking, it makes me cry when I see it..

justanoldgamer: OK
I've got a Core 2 Quad 2.5 Ghz 64 bits
8 GB of ram
GEFORCE GTX 650 1GB (The most I could afford to replace an ATI Radeon 4650 1GB that went bye bye)

So I'm a bit below on the CPU but I have no clue of the graphic card. Is there a site where they sort graphic card by performance?

PokerCrow: I've always found TomsHardware is a terrific reference point for purchasing graphic cards. Not only they recommend the best bang for your buck in different budget tiers (June review is ), they also provide a hierarchy chart to compare cards from different generations ([url=http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html]here), which is more or less what you ask.
Second TomsHardware - been around forever and still great pointers. Also, don't worry about a new GPU yet. I posted it in another Witcher thread, but I'm "due" for a new GPU myself - however I can still play all the stuff I want to play, as I want to play it. In a year time when W3 is released, I'll be able to get that much better a card or figure out what new drivers are performing the best, letting that guide my choice.
Plus, no sense in shelling out for 3,100 teraflops of wing-dang-doodles, only to learn in a year that developers were able to optimize for having 8 quibit cores instead of WDD! Now your card is Wingdangdoodle heavy but only handles 5 cores (note: my terms are made up and NOT tech specs you should be looking for ;))

tinyE: My worst fear is a little more rational than that:
Thanks for making me vomit on my desk. Next time please post a warning along with a pic this disgusting.

comradegarry: I'm at a lost right now, I have no way of playing The Witcher 3 when it comes out.
It'll be years before I can afford to get a machine that will run it, anybody got any idea's how to stay unspoiled till then?

Also has their been mention of any linux [native?] support yet?
Had same problem with W2, bought 2 copies, (second was the enhanced version), but couldn't run either game, at least I could get it on 360 as well, but that option is no use for W3.

A shame really, I reckon that the req's will lose them a lot of sales.

comradegarry: Well my computer can't run TW2(had to play it on my xbox 360 even though I own a steam/gog copy) so I'm pretty sure it won't run TW3..
Wait, what? How could you have ever expected to run The Witcher 3 if you already knew you couldn't run 2? Your "worst fear" didn't suddenly come true. It's been true for quite a while now apparently.

Well when TW2 came out the wine support (wine run windows programs in linux) wasn't that good, and yes it [TW2] is on linux now but it's in a wrapper that's even worst than wine. My computer could possibly play TW2 on low-medium(GPU limited) settings if it would work native. So it gave me hope in case I could upgrade my gpu to get it to work, but sadly it doesn't look like a upgrade will do for this game.
Well, isn't TW3 going to be released in February 2015? That's 8 months from now, so there's still some time to scrounge up the cash for some upgrades. Throw a few euros or more on a second bank-account every month, sell some old clothes/appliances/bikes/whatnot you're not using anymore and so on. Then, in 2015 check up on used PC-parts, like e.g. some older Core i7 should be totally possible to get on the cheap as used by then, take any working parts from your current one and so on.

I am used to having to get by with quite little money, so I'm used to upgrading my PC in sort of a rolling fashion where I upgrade one part here, another there, I wait 6 months to 2 years until I find a good deal on the next part to be upgraded and so on. Also, most things work just fine even if they're used, the only things I wouldn't trust as used are mechanical HDDs.

I agree that's a good idea but I've been budgeting for a couple of years now for buying/building a new computer in 2017 (I plan way ahead) but even with a high end computer if linux is not support and/or not optimized it will take hardware not found for even more years to come for it to run good if at all(the overhead can* be quite bad at times using wine.)

comradegarry: if linux is not support and/or not optimized
Well, you said the word "if" there -- don't throw down the towel before you actually know how TW3 works. Despair once the game is released if there is a reason to despair, but doing that now is just premature :)
