What are you on about with the 'WOW" and such? I already said repeatedly I do NOT agree with limiting those rights. I do NOT agree with Steam and SecuROM and such. Please stop acting like I am trying to inflict my philosophy on you by force when I am clearly NOT doing so.
I said my PERSONAL philosophy is not to play something unless the creators get a slice. If there is any way to buy the game new, I do that. I don't buy from key stores or pirate, I don't buy used copies on ebay or borrow a friend's, because I PERSONALLY do not agree with it.

When i said rights i was talking about the rights to resell a game, not rights regarding DRM...
In the end, if I play a game I want the creators and investors that allowed that game to exist to get something from it. That's my personal philosophy. It is extremely obvious a lot of people don't give a crap about that...

Well, it depends on the situation. It depends on the person. When I say a lot of people that doesn't mean you are in that group.
I post on 4-5 forums and I constantly see comments like "I'll wait and get it cheap used" or "I pirated it and played the entire game through, but I don't think it is worth paying for" or whatever else. Then these SAME people will post in another thread about PC games getting the shaft, which is based on low sales. I find that ironic.

If it wasn't for the need to have publishers fund game development (and its associated costs) I suspect a hell of a lot of devs would end up self publishing. THAT would be the best step towards supporting the industry. Its the main reason I tell everyone to buy Tales of Monkey Island from Telltale rather than steam so all your cash are belong to them.

Well, i can only say that i agree with you. When people behave the way you describe regarding piracy, it is ironic.
Look, it seems our views on DRM are similar.
As for resale we clearly have different views. I have no problems with your resale philoshopy since it's a personnal way of doing things, but the point is resale should remain a right any consumer has untill the law changes or catches up and clearly states otherwise.
Right now all we got are some roundabout ways of preventing people form exercising this right, the right to resell, and that is shady anyway you look at it.
I don't pirate games, i love games and i have a great deal of respect and admiration for the people who have the talent to make them (not so much for publishers, but they aren't all bad) but i really don't want to give up my consumer rights, or any other rights for that matter, to play games.
And this may sound weird, but i never would even dream of selling one of my games, retail or digital, regardless of how crappy any given game turns out to be (i'm looking at Oblivion on my RL shelf for instance. Hate it, but would never sell it). But i do want the freedom to choose. And i want my next door neighbour to be able to sell his games if he so chooses...

Right on... I think we pretty much agree with everything. I'm not going to crusade for resale rights, due to how I look at things, but I also recognize those rights are tied to the things I DO fight for, like secure ownership of my copy of the game.
All I was ever saying in this thread was Steam DRM sucks because you lease your games, even though I don't care about reselling games as I don't believe in it.

People express opinions all the time, about almost everything. My opinion is that you should buy games new and pay for your games in all situations, in order to fund development of games. That is my opinion. My opinion is that it is wrong to buy games used to save a few bucks and the developer sees nothing out of your purchase.
Why can't I have that opinion? What about me having that opinion bothers you? I didn't say you are an evil man, I didn't call you a wanker like you just called me. All I said is I think buying used to save some money, or pirating of course, is wrong. I think it is wrong. Key words being I and Think.

I recognize full well that it's your opinion, and I'm simply informing you that it and the way you've expressed it in this instance are offensive. Everyone has opinions, and many of those opinions and the way they're expressed make people come across as asses. You have the right to express you opinions, and I will always defend that right, but I'll also still call you out if I think some opinion makes you a jackass. Dressing up such opinions in polite language doesn't do anything to make them less offensive either, hence why I'm not bothering to mince words in telling you what I think of your opinions on this matter.
As for why I find your opinion on this matter offensive, every day we're seeing companies try to find new ways to dick over consumers, and in the middle of this you then have the audacity to attack customers doing something that is not only their legal right, but has been their right for pretty much all of history, and which society has time after time recognized the value of. And in addition you attempt to associate the exercise of this right with illegal activity. As a strong advocate of consumer rights, I thus find your attack on these rights and moreover your attempt to associate the exercise of these rights with clear illegal and unethical behavior to be insulting and offensive.
Your opinion on this matter being, naturally, an opinion, does nothing to indemnify said opinion from criticism. And if you take issue with other people saying they think your opinions are bullshit... well, I'll just return your own suggestion right back to you.
