Lenriak: I don't think so, I think he knows people are gonna rate the game bad because some fools are gonna think "13 years of development = one of the greatest games in existence" not realising that we really have absolutely no idea how much of those 13 years of content has been saved, scrapped, edited (over and over again) or even rebuilt from scratch. This iteration of Duke Nukem and all its content could only have had 2 years development for all we know (not counting everything thats scrapped)
Sogi-Ya: no, what he knows is that the game is flawed and probably too short. most of the content is scripted events (from what I have read about the demo) and titty jokes, that may be fine in Leisure Suit Larry but this is supposed to be a FPS. ... and it's a FPS that is going to be held up against Serrious Sam, not Duke 3D, and thats not a pleasant experience unless you got one hell of a game ... which they don't. Seeing as how this is Gearbox and 2K we can expect that there will be a shit ton of expansion packs, and no matter what the basic review can't be counted as the final product.
but thats both good and bad because while I like for games to be supported for years, I don't like to have to wait for years to get the whole game and I really don't like having to pay over and vier again to get it.
In my life I've seen just as many demos that aren't like the finished game in certain ways. Some demos had content, features or mechanics that the finished game didn't have (from Alien Breed to Gladius), some had levels that were unique to the demo (from Cannon Fodder to Tomb Raider 3, I cant think of later games of the top of my head that may have unique levels), some demos didn't even resemble the finished game in anyway (Skeleton Krew is all I can think of right now, lol).
I don't expect Duke Nukem to be great but I doubt its as bad as some people are saying, I don't see it being much different than Bulletstorm, as immature as it is, a lot of people seem to like that game. (never played that either)
I'll agree with ya on the expansions, thats just shit.

hedwards: First off, most of the work that's in the game was done prior to Gearbox being brought in to clean it up for released. So, it's not unreasonable for him to want to point out that a lot of it might not be as well received as if his team had done it. That's natural, they didn't get to call the shots and as such don't want to take the blame if 3D Realms miscalculated.
but that wont stop him from taking credit for anything that is good ... hedwards: Duke 3D is was smuttier than Leisure Suit Larry, I take it you haven't actually played it otherwise you'd remember the in game porn films and strippers, Leisure Suit Larry was pretty obscene at places, but he always got some sort of punishment for thinking about that stuff.
SCRIPTED EVENTS and titty jokes are fine for adventure games, but not for (non-tactical) shooter games. hedwards: Additionally it's a valid point to mention that the fans aren't going to be happy with any reviewer that reviews the game based upon what they think 12 years worth of development ought to bring. It's not a fair metric especially given the number of times that they started over with a new engine.
no one is going to review this game based on that, they will however review this game based on how it compares to it's spiritual successor: Serious Sam. hedwards: And lastly, it's pretty clear that you've got some sort of inside information if you're claiming that the game is flawed, and yet you apparently haven't played the demo and are casting insults without even having played it. That's kind of low and not really a reflection of the sort of person that this game was meant for.
I never claimed I had any kind of inside information, I just took the time to read peoples reactions to the demo and combined that with this guy going on the offensive about shitty reviews. as you said it's your Opinion and you are entitled to it, 20+ levels is nothing if each one takes 5 min to finish not to mention that the game is confirmed to virtually no multiplayer elements (to be DLC-ed in latter), Serious Sam is a knock off, makes not effort to hide that it is a knock off, and a very good one that exceeds the inspiration, and your talking about a videogame: the tittles are polygons, you can't touch them, and it's an innuendoed blow job that happens off screen so I'm afraid that your dreams of watching a polygon dick get sucked by a polygon mouth will have to go un-fulfilled.

2. D3D(As we keep saying) was full of toilet humor and tits......and what's wrong with some scripted events? Yes some games overuse them but if done right and not too often they can be good.
3. The fair ones will.
4. Shitty reviews of a DEMO....and one which many seem to be making their final decision on, no less.
5. A: The levels are going to be long...they were cut down for the demo. Some on duke4 confirmed this by looking at script/voice acting resources hidden in the demo which prove the levels are being cut for the demo people played.
B: Oh stop with that crap about "titties" in games were ok when I was 16 but now they're sooo childish and anyone who likes them is an immature tween/etc" allusions.

Sogi-Ya: SCRIPTED EVENTS and titty jokes are fine for adventure games, but not for (non-tactical) shooter games. Given that you haven't played it, I'm really curious on what basis you're claiming to know what is and isn't acceptable for a demo. The point of a demo is to give people a taste so that they go out and buy the game. This demo seems to be doing just fine in that respect.

orcishgamer: When did he suggest that? Dude, Universal just had to fucking cancel the Cthulu movie because their finances have been so borked with them pumping out innovation over the years (Scott Pilgrim seemed to be the last straw for investors).
So yeah, he has a point and you're missing it.
DodoGeo: What did I miss? So yeah, he has a point and you're missing it.
I know that money or profit is the goal for developer/producer, but he said that if a market demands a Call of Duty 11, go give it to them. Why take a chance?
Oh and if we are going to take the movie hyperbole, Scott Pilgrim was a massive miscalculation by doing internet polls and hype. Just like Snakes on a plane. You could say that money and not so much innovation was the driving point behind those.
Citizen Kane was a box office disaster, yet is considered the best movie ever. The same could be said for Planescape. We would be much poorer if people did not take chances.
You're the one who went into the hyperbole that we'd never see any more Citizen Kane video games and only Call of Duty XXII or something. Clearly that's not true, even when game companies look out for their bottom line.

Titties in Duke 3D were icing on the cake, they were post production fluff to polish off an already awesome game.
Sure the NPC writing in borderlands was pretty clever, and claptrap was funny, but actually playing the game was a snore fest thanks to the null factor of dieing and "aiming is optional because I'm going to stand in the open" enemy AI.
the story in Section 8 is pretty shitty, but I don't really care because the plot is the last of my concerns while I'm having a blast blowing the hell out of things. and much like that, really great Sex jokes do not make a good Duke Nukem game.
(and since you guys like to quote the glory of D3D's strippers, here is a little reminder of how "glorious" they were ...)
grrr, link got swapped ... FIXED! ... and here is that risqué porn show.)

I still liked them, and found it to be an integral part of Duke's repatoire. And even though you couldn't die I still loved the game because in order to progress you had to try the same part until you got it right, making it just challenging enough to be fun...even with regeneration checkpoints.
On the contrary, they are a very important part of it....and were also a great part of D3D. Not just the killing/ass kicking.

You do realize that quite a few of us have Duke 3D and have played it recently, right? Both with and without the HRP fixes. Plus, that link is broken.
