This game is just.....dull, and misleading aswell I thought it was an Open World like the Elder Scrolls and later Far Crys, but dare I say it, its basically a Halo Campaign with a minor Stealth element, Giant levels on a linear path, and Stealth is not that good.

Enemies are fucking relentless with forever shooting rocket launcher towers.

Graphics are beautiful of course, but it looks like the same style I see in Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. 1 its like this game and FEAR were borrowing from the Doom 3 engine.

Honestly its not a Completely bad game but still its meh. Heck I am going as far as stating Far Cry 2 is better than this game at least it is open world and has some freedom. You can keep the stupid mutant monsters from Far Cry 1 if that made the game special. I'll stick with Far Cry 2's realism.
You know, the whole "open world = better game" argument is... well, honestly, kinda making games crappy.

It's a far more impressive accomplishment to make a linear game with large, wide open maps.

The stupid mutant apes do kinda ruin the game, yes.

Still better than Far Cry 2.

No no no, What I meant was I thought it was an Open World because of all the reviews and headlines I read, and I was not expecting it to not be open world.

And yeah it does not bother me that its linear heck even I noticed the rage against linear games is stupid since games like Call of Duty were never made to be non linear to begin with.

Still I like Far Cry 2 better than 1.
My reaction was even more extreme. This game has no soul. There is nothing in the story, weapon, level or monster/enemy design that make it stand out from the crowd. Not to mention things that hold it back like semi automatic rocket launchers with infinite ammo or horrible enemy AI. Its just a lengthy tech demo.

I finished almost every FPS that is availible on GOG and many more that arent, including many mods and user made maps, was addicted to CS for three years, played 100+ hours of the original enemy territory, and yet i couldnt make myself finish the second level. Something is clearly wrong with this game, and I have no clue as to why was it overlooked in the post release reviews.

Ya I seem to be in the minority but when I see a game advertised as "open world" I generally steer clear.

Unless a game has a 1000 person dev team open world usually translates to less focused and weak story with paper thin content copy-pasted liberally.

(granted I haven't played every open world game out there)

Unless you mean "open world" in the sense that Thief: MA is "open world" (huge levels) but I don't think that's generally how it's used.

The one exception to this is Operation Flashpoint (the original), which still isn't really "classic" open world, it just has all its well designed missions set on the same enormous island.

How does Crysis 1 compare to Far Cry 1?

Brilliant.
I enjoyed FARCRY 1 as well as CRYSIS 1. Both brilliant games but I can imagine not everyone likes to shoot things in the jungle. As for open world thing I think in those game it's based on hiding between the trees avoiding to go on the main road where every enemy can see you and it's not about having like X ways to go around the enemies.
I enjoyed Far Cry
I even liked mutant bits until they threw more mutants than breathing space at you

Well at first I was enjoying it alot, but than it was just a drag as the game progresses that it started to get boring.
Did they advertise it as being open world? I did some research before I bought it and didn't see anything to suggest it was open world.

I haven't played many fps games after doom. but I really enjoyed Far Cry. I thought the levels were tricky but not impossible, I didn't have a problem with the AI, it was nice to play an fps that involved a bit more thought and planning than the fps games i am used to.

I finished the game and loved every minute of it. There was one guy in a tower with a rocket launcher that caused me a problem. Then I killed him. Then there was no problem. I also didn't mind the story, and enjoyed the payout at the end.

If your view is open world = better game then I guess you would like Far Cry 2 better than Far Cry 1, but if that's not your only consideration, you might like Far Cry 1 much better.

Personally for me that fact that Far Cry 2 is open world doesn't overcome the many many design flaws.

I always keep the sniper rifle, this game sort of punishes you without it.

Stealth is somewhat broken How the fuck can that rocket launcher guy on a tower see me from very far away while crawling on tall grass?

Unless it has something to do with my red shirt.....

The red shirt broke the stealth aspect for me. I was baffled by how well I could hide wearing it.
farcry 1 was just plain boring nothing else to say here and gun play was not fun,
far cry 2 even with hell of fault would have been fun and i overlooked every one of its fault BUT stupid blur effect oo my eyes and stooped playing after unable to find a cheat or trainer to take of blur

Terribly - all enemies I saw (in the hour I played I will add) running sideways even before theyve seen you. the plot was drastically b-movie ripped and ultimately, it had zero immersion - i took it back for a refund!
Sorry - but I didnt enjoy Crysis one bit!
