Here's a teaser for my new GOG.com-related project. It's a site where GOGgers can make a publicly-visible profile page for themselves. I notices a few guys asking for this sort of functionality on the forums.

So far I have finished the public GOG shelf. It's controlled from inside GOG.com using a GreaseMonkey script. Install GreaseMonkey and the user script, then go to your shelf and press a button to send your shelf to your public profile. This will automatically put a copy of your shelf onto a web page on the Internet which you can share with the world.

Next I will do a biography page (you can write whatever you want - for example, describing yourself or linking to your Steam profile) and a wishlist.

Is anyone interested in using something like this?

Absolutely!
Just one question:
Will this automatically update when you buy more games, or do you have to press the button again?

Ok, a second question:
can it just scrape the wishlist tab in the same way, or do you manually add the wishlist?
YES.
Does it have to be the shelf view? :/

I really would like to see some kind of PM integration with it and also the possibility to look at the wishlist (which I guess would need the email?) so it's easy to gift games to people.
Agreed on adding a Wishlist option. I really think we would benefit from something less-easy-to-foul-up than the Wishlist spreadsheet...something where if it were fouled up, its no big deal because its only the individual's wishlist.
it would be good to have a profile, but not turn gog into a social network or something.

I'm not sure what you mean, but even the current features GOG added like private messaging, is optional.
Sweet, keep us posted please

Don't go with the masses? I don't know.

But I do know that there are a lot of people here (I for one) who would love friend lists and user profiles. Especially if it eased up the gifting of games to others.

If those eventually made their way to GOG, I'm sure you will still be able to disable them completely like the PM system now. You don't have to use them.
Yes, yes, a million times yes.

no, what you said is cool, it is good but i was talking about way ahead in the future
let me try to explain what I ment with an example:
I know some folks here that have steam account only to talk to other people, they don't play games in the first place.
and in the future I would not like this to happen with gog because we are all here because we love good old games in the first place and not because it is a social network.

I don't know if I made myself clear now =)

At first it will update on request, but later I plan to trigger an automatic update when you complete a purchase. I'll have to wait until next time I buy a game before I'll be able to add and test that feature. The manual update request will always be available though.

The wishlist will work the same way, but I'll probably automate it before the shelf.

The shelf view is the starting point. I'm planning to implement the wishlist next, then I'll do the list view. PM integration will most likely involve providing a link to PM someone, but I'm not sure how I'll go about that at the moment because GOG uses obfuscation.

Don't worry, I have no intention of doing any sort of social network graphs or friending.

Sounds very interesting...
