It's counter-Earth! It was a legitimate theory based on actual science, until it was proven conclusively wrong. The idea was that another planet is in the same orbit as Earth, but is at the Lagrange point opposite the sun, so we can never actually see it from Earth. We now know there is really nothing there.

Oooh, unless she means Nemesis, which is a bunch of complete bullshit but is still pretty cool. Nemesis is supposed to be a Brown Dwarf star that orbits our sun in an eccentric orbit that keeps outside the Oort Cloud most of the time, but every 26 million years or so, it makes a pass by us, causing an extinction event.

Yeah, but I like the Marvel Comics "Counter-Earth" name better.

She never mentioned the Nemesis bit, just that the planet was very carefully hidden from us. So yes, it's the counter-Earth theory that she used to harp on for a while.

Now her pet theory is that there is some Eeeevillll Organization that is going to use our technology against us and implant us with some sort of electronic chips and make us into some sort of techno-slaves. She usually whips this theory out once in a blue moon.

I've got a good friend whose whole family believes in these things. They're into the Queen Elizabeth being in control of everything, aliens having visited and living among us and reptilians being in positions of power. I almost always avoid talking about aliens, religion or about or international politics when I'm with them. They're very good friends and I'm quite tolerant to the different beliefs of other people, but it's a bit annoying when they want to convince you they're right.

I've long ago learned that instead of wasting the immense effort and emotional investment to convince someone that their own viewpoint is wrong, it is best just decide what is currently right for me and be satisfied with that. Honestly when you look at how much more effort some people put into proving other people's errors, rather than furthering their own education on a subject that is of personal interest, it makes you realise why we are so often aggressive as a species.
