Ahhh, here in Australia....
No, wait. Our leader will just play "Mr. Suck Up" and do pretty much whatever he is told. People of the USA: Vote in whoever is the lesser evil! Think of us poor Aussies :)

deathkitten: We need an offtopic forum, and rename general discussion "general games discussion"...

bpops: Thankyou, yes. When I come to this site, I want to read about gaming. If I want to read politics, I'll go to BBC News. If I want to read about McCain haters, I'll go to Digg.

First off, I do not hate McCain. My mom worked for him a while back, and really liked him.
Also, the reason I posted this was I thought it would be an interesting discussion. Granted, the way I phrased the ending was a tad bit immature, but judging from Weclock's response, we got to hear an interesting view on politics today. The title of the thread in itself was evidence enough that this would have nothing to do about games (again, could've been phrased better). You don't have to read every single thread that pops up.

ken007: Really? You think there are many people who only watches Fox News and no other news channel?

Yes. Millions, in fact.
For most people, the news consists of the local paper and one news channel. It may be a local affiliate, it may be Fox, it may be CNN. In any of the above cases, these people are getting a tiny, biased fraction of what's going on in the world. Fox just happens to be the most biased of the bunch, but don't trick yourself: CNN is almost as bad as Fox these days, just on the opposite side of the narrow American spectrum.
Bottom line is, most people prefer to be lied to, because the lies support their existing beliefs.
If you want to be informed, get your news from a variety of sources, preferably, somewhere like Google News where you're getting it straight from AP. Aggregators like Digg and reddit work too, as long as you put forth the mental effort to filter out the liberal bias.

Fox News at its finest.
That... Fox News should just be taken out back and...
The only post I'll even come close to touching on politics on this board...
If you really want to find out what the US is doing do not read, or watch American media...
Asia Times (Asian)
The Globe and Mail (Canada)
The Guardian (United Kingdom)
Moscow Times (Russian)
Sina English (Chinese news)
Arab News (Middle East)
Der Spiegel (Germany)
I've found articles on each of these sites talking about issues US media hasn't touched. I read about 'black box voting', about the problems with electronic voting machines in the US well over a year before I saw it first mentioned in the US. You'd be surprised what you don't know. The other good thing about some of these sites is that its not written at a grade 4 level. Its not black and white, they'll actually research the topc rather than float opinion and disguise it as news.
And most the important site...
Game Politics

I'mma gonna say this, and this only.
Every one at Fox News has a great deal of respect for video games
or at least they do now.

Blarg: Absolutely. I know tons of people who only watch Fox news and only listen to right-wing and/or Christian broadcasters on the radio. This is not at all a rarity where I live, and most of America is far more conservative than where I live(Southern California).

Yeap. California is considered one of the more liberal states... Yet, all my friends are fairly conservative (and Republican) compared to me (which I'm actually not... I lived in Berkeley for a wihle and I hated it).

Yeah, The West Coast (California, Oregon and Washington) and Northeast (New York and new England) are the most liberal areas from what I have seen.

LOL. Fox is fail. I love how they only had one person who actually plays games in that "news report" and 6-7 other people who don't play games and who are conservative parents. THAT'S NOT BIASED!

hobbes543: Yeah, The West Coast (California, Oregon and Washington) and Northeast (New York and new England) are the most liberal areas from what I have seen.

I am constantly amazed at how Cali votes democratic in presidential elections yets votes republican in local elections. At least that is the way it seems to me.
When I watch the news I have 4 News Channels to pick from. I wouldn't just stick to one channel, as I like to get the whole story. I'm rather horrified to hear that so many americans only watch Fox News. I saw this documentary about Fox and I gotta say... my jaw was like down on the floor! :D I would be surprised if they have ever aired a news piece that was actually objective. :P

The worst part about that is when you're in a position like Geoff Keighley, and you literally have to shout her down to give the truth.

Living in Oregon, I can back you up on at least that front. Although, I hear the East and South of our state are a little different than Portland's liberal nature...
