spinefarm: Don't worry it gets better and better with every issue you will find dealing with steam + steam support ;)
I hope I can get this sorted within the next 12 or so hours LOL

Or you can just play something else...
I will pull a name either tonight or tomorrow regardless of whether I get the game working or not. If I do I will I update. If not I'll just eat what I spent for it and remove the crap from my PC.

Just try to run it after the MW3 weekend ;) Hope it works then
One copy of any one of these three: Age of Wonders I, II & III

If AoW doesn't tickle your fancy I'll hand over Steam key to Wolfenstein (2009)

If neither of those options suit your tastes... Soulbringer

Winners choice.

One winner will be chosen at random when Alan Wake is up and running or sometime between tonight and tomorrow morning.

Removed the solution reward update as the ticket has been submitted. There is also a chance I may fall asleep. As of this point in time I have not seen a solution to this problem listed on any of the forums.

the_bard: Alright, so I go to post in the support forum. I see a thread with some folks having the exact same issue. I register and go to post in the thread:

Are you posting in Off Topic? You must have 10 or most posts to participate in Off Topic.
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

LOL, this just keeps getting better. Now I'm in a waiting line for the mods to approve my account. Fuck me.
Steam forums and support is separate from steam. You need an account in both, they are not integrated, for security reasons, so if you lose access to your regular steam account, you can complain about it in the forums. Or something.

10-4. Yeah, I put in a ticket. Got tired of waiting LOL
Hopefully they will be able to help you swiftly. Steam support is notoriously slow.

Eh, the only time I had to put a ticket it was resolved in like 24 hours. And it was my fault anyways. I really like the steam service, but the support could be way better.
I've been using Steam since it started with Half-Life 2 and have seen that message on rare occasions. It was always fixed with a client restart.
I was trying to download Dear Esther last night and it took several attempts to get it to even download. I think they were really busy last night. I tried the old trick of switching servers and even that didn't help. Eventually it did kick back in tho' - and it played fine once I got it.

If its not already been suggested (I haven't read all the posts) you could try downloading a free demo of some small game to try to see if it is a general problem or a game specific one.

Yeah, I expect an answer probably next week sometime. This whole experience has given me a dismal outlook for this type of service. It's basically like buying a car and handing over the keys to someone else to "hold" for you. So, when you want to take the car out and the key holder isn't around you're just SOL. I've done everything I know to do up to this point. Re-installing the whole game again atm. This will be the third time.

Yeah, that's not working in this case.

I downloaded TF2 when I downloaded Alan Wake the first time. TF2 has started and ran fine through this whole ordeal. Only Alan Wake has been effected. It's like I have a bad key or something. I don't know. Even after uninstalling and re-installing the Steam client the game still shows up in my library. It just doesn't work. So, I'm at a loss. at this point. And out 24 USD and several hours of time spent dealing with this.

That's good new,.in a way, it means you almost certainly don't have a problem at your end with firewall, virus checker, etc.

I presume you meet the minimum system requirements. The one that caught my eye was "DirectX 10 compatible with 512MB RAM".

I had actually got the game to run once. I kicked it off when I woke up yesterday morning just to watch a bit of the intro. According to the client I was in it for a little under a minute and I turned it off, because I wanted to save it for later that day. When I went back to it and attempted to play it, it has been unplayable since. Someone on the Stearm forums said that they got to log about 3 hours of play before their copy did the exact same thing.
