So, I bought Alan Wake. Been wanting to play it since it launched as an Xbox title. Since I don't own a 360 I figured well I'm just shit out of luck. Boy, was I happy when I found it was coming to PC... *fast forward to present*

Well, here I set looking at the damned thing in my "Steam library"(joy). And looking at is all I can do because every !@#$ing time I click on the cute little "Play" button in the console; this lovely little message from the Steam client pops up:

"This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time. OK"

Any help would be appreciated at this moment before I spiral off in the realms of insanity...
Sometimes, not really often, that happens. Don't know if Steam is currently under maintenance. It happened to me yesterday when trying to start DNF, took me a couple of minutes.

Try restarting your Steam client.
Can't really find any similar experiences on the Steam Alan Wake forums. Did you purchase it directly from the US Steam Store or somewhere else?

big releases lead to big problems installing and authorising just keep trying you'll eventually get access
There were complaints on another thread last week, something about the client being down I guess. It should work again eventually.

Can't have been Alan Wake specific then I imagine, it only came out 16th xD
Have you tried offline mode? That usually only happens when a game can't reach an only function.

GMG. I took the key straight away over to steam and dld it there. And I know well it was working because I woke up at 4amish this morning and saw it was complete. So, I clicked play then and watched a bit of the intro before turning it back off to save it for this afternoon.

I got it once (and I've been using it since 2007, just to comfort you) and the second link solution worked (edit: the cache verification)

A site wide complaint would affect everything, despite release dates. Especially if there's something goofy with the server.

Upper left corner, under "Steam", second from the top -> change to offline.
Usually when it happens to me I just restart the client (and sometimes my internet connection) and it works.
Read-Only files, Mcaffee, complete reinstalls... you read a lot of reasons on the internet browsing about this xD

Verify Integrity is always a good step. So is deleting the clientregistry.blob sometimes
There's a MW3 free weekend going on right now, and people have been reporting very slow download times. Maybe that's causing some trouble on the Steam client. During sales, especially when the daily deals change, it's a common problem.
