In a fit of irony (or perhaps just sympathy) my external hard drive just gave me an ntfsd.sys BSOD.

Now, did I change anything on this computer since the last time it worked?

Nope. Alright, I'll tell you all what it was because I think I'm about to go over the other forums and share this info.

My antivirus didn't like it. No notification. Nothing. After I did the reinstall of everything. Tried kicking it off and same shit. So, I killed the antivirus and it fired right up. That's what it was all along. Now my antivirus has never done anything like that before so I didn't suspect. But for some reason it doesn't like Alan Wake. LOL

Simplest thing checked last!

Always the case really, PC game doesnt work and you instantly start thinking technical and what it could be.

Yeah, it sucks, but I had a good time in this thread. So, that made up for it. LOL And hopefully what I went through will help the others over the AW forums.

Oh, and I would like to state that this wasn't Steam's fault. It was my antivirus kicking up shit over Alan Wake. Just want to make that clear. So, I will continue to use the service despite some of the nasty things I said in frustration whilst trying to sort out this incident. LOL
