So in some cases, the music in a game makes the game! or in the very least makes the game that much better. Can we all agree on that? please? I don't care actually lol.

So what are some of your favourite game soundtracks? Here's a few of mine.

- Skyrim
- Assassin's Creed 2
- Red Dead Redempion
- Fallout 3 (Galaxy News Radio songs)
- Wizadry 8

So what are some of your's?

World of Warcraft
EverQuest
Baldur's Gate

I love the music in those games. The soundtracks for WoW I was able to buy from the iTunes store. EverQuest, a lot of the music is in mp3 files in the install folders and the Baldur's Gate soundtrack was courtesy of GOG.
Bastion

End of.
Most if not all of the Halo games the music adds such depth, unfortunately most of the other games i play i keep on a low volume so dont really notice the effect it has on the gaming experience!

I have to disagree with you there. I have a few favorites that come from this day and age, most of which come from certain composers (namely Jeremy Soule, Akira Yamaoka, and Koji Kondo).

Zelda (OoT is my favorite OST, followed closely by TP)
Metroid (including Primes)
Silent Hill series (even Homecoming had some good tracks)
TES series (Jeremy Soule seems to get better as he goes)
Persona 3 (music plays a huge part in creating atmosphere and setting the mood)
Diablo, Torchlight (same guys)
GTA series obviously
Metroid (NES)
Vampire:The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Mirror's Edge
Ys Origin
The Cat Lady
Bastion
some songs from Alan Wake
Final Fantasy games (Nobuo Uematsu)
Silent Hill games (Akira Yamaoka)
Tetris Attack

Well I guess I shouldn't have said never as there is some good music even in this day but its a lot more rare than it was back then

I'm not sure what to think, I'm from a newer generation (95 kid here) so I don't have experience in older games like the Caslvania games, but from what I've heard from Baulders Gate, Wizardry 8, Final Fantasy and Mega Man they are great. There are some games today that are just ok, than some that are amazing like Skyrim. I bought the CD and got it signed by Soule himself. And I agree he get's better as he goes.

I think it's in the eye of the beholder. It depends on if the Dev's think that music is important or not to the game.
Oh, I love lots of soundtracks to games. Some of my friends find it funny that the music folder on my phone is filled with them. That said, here's a bunch of great ones that I listen to more often than others:

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs (first game's soundtrack isn't something I care much for outside of the game, but I love this one's)
Awesomenauts
Bastion (blew me away in game - absolutely stunning)
Bioshock Infinite
BIT.TRIP.RUNNER (it's a music rhythm game, so go figure)
Chrono Trigger
Dear Esther
Deus Ex (yes yes yes)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (*gasp* it's just as good)
Far Cry 3 (not perfect, but pretty good)
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (kicks ass)
Faster Than Light
Fez
The Last of Us (don't even own the game yet, but the soundtrack's one of my favourite of all time for anything)
Half Life 2
Hotline Miami (like TLOU, one of my favourite soundtracks ever)
Lone Survivor
Killer 7
Kentucky Route Zero (assuming the remaining acts will make use of music so well too)
Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery
Shoot Many Robots (can't remember how I got this as I haven't even got the game, though I love this)
The Swapper

Oddly, I don't go out of my way to pick up AAA game soundtracks, even though there's a ton of great ones there too. But, yeah, there's those. Could look through my Steam or GOG library too, for some other favourites, but I guess that makes my point: I love music for most games I play.
I'm actually interested in soundtracks that AREN'T any good, since it's really easy to find good game music these days, even on indie titles. ;)
Homeworld; probably the best Sound and Music if have heard in any game so far!

But there are lots of really good game soundtracks around which makes my list quite big. I have nearly 150 soundtracks, both games and movies, in iTunes. :)

Icewind Dale
Gothic Series
The Book of unwritten Tales
Diablo 1 & 2
Mass Effect 2
World of Warcraft (but only Classic)
Trine 1
The Witcher 1
Neverhood
Skullmonkeys
Deus ex
System shock 1 + 2
Omikron
Bastion
Fallout
Planescape: Torment
Arcanum
Hotline Miami
Rollcage
Dark souls
Dreamfall
Vampire the masquerade bloodlines
