It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Zchinque: I don't want anything too fancy. Or rather, too expensive.
I mostly use the black Lenovo mouse (model MO28UOL) I got with my laptop.

It's pretty good, I've tested it with IE, Firefox, Serious Sam, Dune2000 and TeamFortress 2.

AlKim: Come to think of it, it was possible to control the sensitity of the Sentinel using its software, so that may have had an effect on how I perceive high DPI settings. On the other hand, I only used the software to make the mouse less sensitive because the cursor would twitch about like it had a seizure if I didn't.
The 2 buttons on the left of the G500 are generally used for switching DPI on the fly. You can put in 6 settings (I forget what I have mine set to but I think it's something along the lines of 5700, 3XXX, 1600, 800, 400, 200)
Glad I don't need a new mouse!!

All I've got from this thread is that everyone has their own favourite!

As to OP - consider exactly what you want the mouse to do, before you make any choices.

Any serious gaming / precision needed, you're looking higher end.

Otherwise, it looks like it comes down to personal choice, going by whats been said so far. I've got a bog-standard Microsoft Wirless Intellimouse, and it is more than fine for my usage (gamer, but not hard-core precision gamer, if you know what i mean!). Oh, and the battery life is amazing...

The Sentinel has that too (although it only has four settings for each of the five profiles which should be enough for almost everyone), but it also has the software thing; if the software sensitivity is set to maximum, even 400DPI will feel pretty brisk. If software sensitivity is somewhere close to the lower end, 5600DPI probably won't get you anywhere.
A Logitech MX 518 if you can find one ( it has been replaced by a new model)

Huff: A Logitech MX 518 if you can find one ( it has been replaced by a new model)
The main problem with the MX-518 is that it only goes to 1800 DPI which may not be enough on a large display, depending on individual preferences. I do like the ergonomics though, and they seem to be bombproof.

I would still suggest buying the G400 which is basically what the MX-518 would be if it was made today.

hedwards: lol, ridiculously expensive mouse. For that you could get like a whole family of mice to release upon the unsuspecting masses.
I got mine for £30 with a copy of RUSE GE. So basically free then, really.

I looked it up and it's going for like $70 right now. Which is just way, way too expensive for a mouse when you can buy like a 4 pack of mouses for that price and get really crazy with them.
Can only speak positively about the MX518 too. Works excellent on both Linux & Windows, and feels nice in my hand. Only thing is that it can get a bit dirty after heavy usage.

Well yeah, $70 is steep. No doubt about it. But personally I've never actually found a mouse I've been totally happy with until now. The ones I've liked have been quite cheap but they broke quite quickly.

Comparatively this mouse is an investment; and you're not only getting a mouse that lasts but one that's decidedly better than the competition into the bargain.

I don't know. It boils down to how important it is to you. But if I'm using something that much for any length of time then it warrants that bit extra investment.
Hello again, guys.

Thank you for all your recommendations. In the end, I decided to go with the G500. It just arrived today, so it's a bit early for any conclusions, but it feels good in the hand so far.
