So, my mouse is kinda borked. The last couple of days it's kept losing contact with USB port, dropping out a second or two every now and again. It works well enough for surfing the web and general use, but many games are obviously now very frustrating.

Anyway, need to get a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good mouse?
I don't want anything too fancy. Or rather, too expensive.

I was considering a Logitech G500. Opinions on that?

This is the one I replaced my old mouse with recently, Logitech M315. So far I've had it for 6 months and haven't needed to change out the battery. It sometimes jams a little on the signal but not very often, so this would be a good and cheap option.

As far as the Logitech G500.... yeah, I wouldn't pay $60 unless I was actually practiced enough to consider that many buttons or was trying to get into professional tournaments. The two buttons in particular irk me because it's similar to my university's mouses, and I keep hitting them by accident. Annoying for web browsing.

Pretty much, I've had my current logitech mouses for many years and despite my hatred of MS their hardware is generally pretty solid.

There might be some marginal benefit for elite players under certain circumstances for a more expensive mouse or settings in which having more buttons is genuinely useful, but few people really need those extra bells and or whistles.

I personally value comfort over increased precision and other half-truths thought up by the marketing department. My current mouse is a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical, in large part because it's gigantic and fits my hand perfectly. They probably don't make this any more but for my next mouse I'd be looking for something with a comparable fit.

If the size of your mouse is one of the things you like about it I'd say you could take that into consideration for its replacement.

I'm a noob here, but I'm certainly familiar with high end mouses. First off, I don't trust Razor, for the price their mouses feel cheap, and are not durable. I had a Diamondback die after a year of normal use and no abuse. Then I got the G500, which is a fine, fine mouse. It's fairly simple, durable, and robust. However, I got greedy and proceeded to purchase a Cyborg RAT 9, which, despite having wireless problems, is the best mouse I have ever purchased.

The form factor for the RAT series is downright incredible. It looks somewhat like the Batmobile from the Dark Knight movies, but it is not for show and entirely functional. Pretty much every surface of this mouse is customizable, so setup can take awhile, but once you find your sweet spot this mouse fits to your hand like a glove. It has features that at first seem superfluous but are actually really handy. The most notable is a thumb button that instantly dials down the sensitivity for when you really need to make a precise shot. Other great features include a sideways scroll button, and a custom profile switcher, allowing up to 4 button profiles if you really want to take advantage of the buttons in different game genres. Everything else is pretty standard.

The only con I have against this mouse is that the wireless version is absolutely unacceptable. The battery life is piss poor, and requires swapping out every 2-3 hours of continuous use; add to that, the battery is not easy to extract from the mouse. The plus side is the battery takes about 15 minutes to recharge, which is not bad. The wireless dock is buggy and will occasionally require reconnecting after startup or return from sleep mode. Not only that but it will register button presses that never occurred fairly frequently, often resulting in the DPS changing and the cursor teleporting to a different part of the screen. In shooters this is devastating, as you can be lining up a shot and then have the screen instantly move to a completely different location.

In short, get the RAT 7, it is amazing.

Do you like to be good at games, especially multiplayer ones?
If you do, a good mouse is definitely something that you should not skip on.
The G500 is a good pick.
I used the MX518 for about 3 years, then G5 for about 2 years and now have been using the G500 for the past few years. Definitely the best mouse I've ever touched. It suits me perfectly because I have a rather large hand (not huge, just above average). If you have an average or below average sized appendage, I'd recommend a Razer mouse (yes, as far as mice go, Razer is solid), or maybe a Steelseries one (i.e. Kinzu). The latter is also a solid mouse.

Make sure that you disable mouse acceleration and other such nonsense and do get the Setpoint drivers if you opt for a Logitech one.
Oh and DO NOT buy a wireless mouse for gaming.

edit: as for the RAT 7, I would not recommend gimmicky mice unless you are a serious MMO player. If you are, also consider the Razer Naga, it's a good pick.

Steelseries Xai Laser mouse. People recommending other mice haven't used the awesomeness of the Xai Laser.

Solid construction. Perfect weight and fits my hand nicely for a symmetrical mouse. It also has all the mouse settings configured in its firmware. So, say for instance you bind the side buttons to [ and ] so you can bind them in games. [ and ] is what those buttons will be on any computer you plug the mouse into. If you switch the left and right mouse buttons then every computer and every game will recognise those buttons as switched. Which is otherwise impossible to do in some games with other, lesser mice.

It's even got an LCD screen on the bottom of it so you can configure it directly through that.

All in all it's just bloody perfect.

Logitech G9X.
I am not a competative player or shit, I don't play MMOs or online shooters; I just needed a big and comfortable mouse.

Some logitech mouse... Reminds me i need to get a new one this one is old :>
If I may give my 2 cents, give the Razer Abyssus a shot, it can be bought for around 40 euros/35 dollars ca and is AWESOME, no drivers required, all settings for the mouse are on the bottom of the mouse and the mouse is very well designed and reacts very good.
I used G500 for almost 2 years now and it's still good as god... In fps games ppl always say I hack..
