One of my favorite effects was the blood. At the start of a battle I would be wearing clean polished armor, and by the end I would be dripping blood.

blotunga: M&B is a great game, so it certainly deserves to be here. The only annoying thing for me in it was when I had to duel on foot using large lances.
Let him come to you, keep your lance ready to strike, he or she will walk against you blocking such attack, once they're about 2 meters from you they'll cancel their block to land a strike on you, that's when you'll release your lance, free hit every time, that should give and edge in the battle, if you both using lances just block his or her thrusts and walk against them narrowing their space to hit you, procede with a tasty kick in the nuts and when their defense is broken land a blow on their heads with you lance, repeat in case the bastard is still alive.

If they're using another weapon such as a sword or axe this becomes harder but no impossible, just avoid getting hit hehe! Otherwise you're done for it hehe!

I haven't played M&B for a long time, but next time I dig it out, I'll try your tips :)

Excellent! hope they help you out when Warband decides to give you the finger (i.e. appearing in the next tournament round with bow and arrow when your character uses one handed, two handed, polearms and/or throwing) ! :D

I'll bash some skulls right now, cheers!

skynet464: Isn't Paradox Interactive Steam only now?
Yes paradox interactive is now steam only since mosts of the gamers unfornately like steam and don't see it as a drm feature and paradox had to go with the mainstream audience.
Voted awhile ago because of duh.

I did ask Taleworlds about this and M&B 2 coming to GOG and they wrote:
"we do not have such a plan for now, but it should be considered."
So, here's hoping?
I'd definitely be open to buying the first Mount & Blade and its expansions (if I recall correctly Warband's expansion(s?) was multiplayer only) here, I already own the DRM-free version of Warband so no need to repurchase it.

Warband is perfect for stealing hours from your life, I always seem to play for at least two hours when I play Warband. Hey don't judge me, that armor isn't going to buy itself, and my character IS the long running champion of every tournament and a tournament IS being held so...oh and I should probably buy some more bread and dried meat...and...

If you like Mount & Blade you may like Salvation Prophecy, it's pretty similar to Mount & Blade in many ways, and it's set in a sci-fi universe.
Voted. More factions and bandits to kill. Heh.

M&B Warband is a stand-alone game.

Similar in what ways? Does it have good storyline? Because M&B Warband does not have storyline.

It's open world, you start off at the bottom of a faction (there are four different factions) and work your way up the ranks by doing missions and pursuing bounties in your free time, and instead of horses you have a ship. In missions you have around twenty allies with you against twenty or more enemies at a time. Winning a mission gains you rank, cash and occasionally fame. Some missions have you invading planets/space stations, and occasionally you'll have to defend your own, and if you don't (or if you retreat) you may lose that planet/space station.

The factions don't center around the player, IE: factions will fight each other, or randomly decide to try to invade one of your planets, and occasionally your faction will try to invade a planet/space station without you being involved.

It does have a story and the story is pretty decent but it is fairly sparse. You can sometimes play for an hour doing missions without gaining any new story info.
It seems like a nice game to try. I'll keep it under my radar.

Thanks

"Should be considered"? Understatement if I ever heard one. That title would fly off gOg's virtual shelves.

What a great game. Simply put, it is utterly top-notch. I'm afraid to dive into the mod scene since I do have work and family responsibilities to consider, and the base game already sucked me in quite thoroughly.

You're welcome! GamersGate has a demo that gives you a good impression of the early parts of the game.

On that note, Salvation Prophecy should be here as well...

Mount and Blade is a fantastic game that I've been playing in one way or another for over a decade (wow, has it been that long! I feel like the freeware / beta release was some time in '01 - '03) Great game and the true definition of a "sandbox" - I remember the first time I fired it up and thought "How the hell am I EVER going to be able to afford ONE piece of armor, let alone outfit a retinue!"

And thanks for the reminder of Salvation Prophecy! I missed grabbing it on a discount from Amazon last year, noticed about a week or two ago that it was 5 bucks again... and never picked it up! I hope I grab it this time... though my newly burgeoning (spelling?) backlog thanks to Summer Sale might interfere with that!
