GameRager: Ignore lists create community splits and problems......maybe an actual mod would be better.
avatar
Cambrey: It is kind of true, but I don't want mods.
If you don't want mods expect the forums to be, eventually, shut down. Very very few sites operate without any active mod presence - and nearly all of them are small friend group sites with only a handful of members - not international large company sites like GoG.

As for changes I'd like to see the general section split - at least into:
General Games
Offtopic

and idealy an additional:
GoG News
Wanted games*

The first two to split general gamer chat from the generalist chat that we get - the two subjects don't overlap and all that happens is a lot of threads get pushed down the page very fast. We need some divide.
A news section helps since it provides a good collected site history without having the news posts filling up the general chat sections (Again pushing threads down faster).
The latter - wanted games - section is simply a catchall to eat up the many "I want XYZ game on GoG" threads that are many (and often made by new members). Whilst valid, they are not really that important and break up general gaming chatter.
The rep system seems to be tied in with the spam blocker which creates problems. You should have to formally report spam so that it is harder to abuse but still effective. I also prefer mods to be a little more open instead of people just disappearing.

Agreed. I wish mods would have replied to me more than slapping my hands I was the most vocal yesterday, basically pushing my complaints aside as if they were nothing.

Mods would definitely help, or at least a staffer whose main job was to move threads to appropriate sections or deal with forums arguments.

I want an ignore function as an alternative, rather than mods, which, sometimes bring even more dramas and conflicts than necessary. Ignore lists may split communities, but it's already the case anyway.
ignore function is needed
An ignore list would be the quickest and easiest solution. One that should be implemented in the interim until GOG finally realise they need moderators 24/7.
low rated
*Ignore function implemented....GR/Roman/Lukipela/Tulivu/etc ignored by 80% of posters....forum dies out from lack of posts* *Not that i'd mind of course......if once someone blocked a person they couldn't rate them anymore*

Oh my God! What would we ever do? ;)

EDIT: Crap, I'm on the GOG shitlist. Not funny, guys.
I would post the link to the shitlist but it is conveniently down for maintenance.

What? So I beat the rape jokes to bloody death and occasionally go ape shit before realizing that I don't even agree with myself sometimes though no one could tell the difference due to my constantly playing the devil's advocate. Tack on to that my propensity for useless quips that I only find funny and you can boil down my contribution to this community to the Pegadolphicorn.

I can imagine how ignore would play out....a small collective of those most found undesirable or led others to believe were undesirable would be in one group, and the rest in the other. ....I wonder which group would be the most fun to be in?

That actually sounds hilarious.

To be honest it does to me too.....in a way the oldtimers komplaining would get their way & have their board back to themselves & those they didn't like wouldn't have to listen to aforementioned oldtimer whining.

I disagree. An ignore list will just bring confusion to the threads by making posts following the ignored posts sometimes not understandable. And what's the use of the ignore list if somebody cite the ignored post, since the ignored text will appear?

No, the only solution is mods, whether they are professionally paid by GOG or elected among the GOGers.

No system will ever be perfect, of course, but actions must be taken.

The ignore function on the Steam forums works perfectly fine. I see no reason why a similar one cannot work here.

In case you've never seen the Steam forum ignore function, it basically auto hides posts by ignored users but always gives you the option to view them. Thus, you can always opt to see any post in the event of possible confusion.

Besides, if you're ignoring someone, chances are you're not going to interested in what they have to say anyhow, thus no confusion.
