What a week. Two amazing games so close together! I was able to trade in some racing titles I don't play anymore, and I am absolutely pleased with MK. I have almost memorized Scorpion and Noob Saibot, and I am getting the hang of Johnny Cage.

And the story mode... by far, it's the best in the series. If you were one of the many clamoring for a new MK movie, this is a pretty close substitute. Very cinematic, and there is no load time from fight to cutscene to fight again. The dialog is an absolute cheesefest, but come on, this is MK we're talking about.
Sounds like this one's rather

...toasty.
I wish they made a PC version. I still remember the event of buying the first 2 Mortal Kombats for PC back when I was like... 8 years old or something. Every single one the games I've tried after MK4 has been somewhat of a disappointment (I've no idea what I expected), though Deception was hilarious in its own way. I was kind of hoping to get my Mortal Kombating on again, but alas, no such luck.

The first two were brilliant, 3 sucked, and I didn't bother going beyond there.

Yeah the old MKs were also easily playable on a keyboard because of their simplicity in keystrokes for special moves. Who can ever forget Liu Kang's -> -> HP
Now where is that PC version?

I loved MK games that were available on PC. Gameplay wise MK3 was my favourite (and still is because I still play it every few years :)) .
One of the few fighting games on PC that actually had a very good keyboard controls (mainly due to "half circles" instead of "full circles").
God damnit, Ed Boon! Asshole put something that pops up in your face randomly when you're browsing the Krypt. I screamed like a little girl in a room full of people.

Yeap, waiting for the PC version. Ed Boon says they're looking into it, that was like Oct last year. No news since.
Loved MK1&2 on the PC.

MK Trilogy & MK4 (PS1): like
MK Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon (PS2): decent but kind of meh

Not interested in a PS3 at present (not keen on renting a console from Sony), but I did play the new MK at a friend's house (omg, am I pirate?).

Mini-review for those interested:

I'm disappointed. Different preorder bonuses at different retailers/distributors is always a turn-off. The story is awful imo (and essentially just resets the MK universe to the beginning of MK4 minus many classic characters). The "Krypt" is annoying to navigate and full of conceptual art and other content that is nice to browse but irritating to have to unlock. There are only two costumes per fighter (one of which must be unlocked) despite a host of previous costumes to draw upon. Kintaro is in the game as a fully functional opponent but players will have to purchase DLC to play as the character. Rain is absent (???), likely to be offered as DLC. Otherwise decent.

In short: It can be fun but isn't worth the price at the present time.
For some reason this crap was banned in Australia. Speak of it no more unless your going to send me a copy :P

Eh. I think it's pretty awesome and worth the price. And I've always been sour about the way MK has appeared on consoles before.
I played the first two on the Amiga. The graphics were nearly identical to the Genesis/MD versions, save for the lack of parallax scrolling backgrounds (a surprise, really. Especially on the Amiga), and controls were limited to two buttons. "High" and "Low" attacks were achieved by holding the joystick diagonally Forward + "High" or "Low" and pressing either the punch or kick buttons. It took practice, but ultimately I ended up going over to my neighbor's house because Fatalities were far easier to execute on a Sega gamepad.
The game is awesome but if you bought the guide to it you are totally screwed. here is a link to fixes to the guide: http://www.primagames.com/blog/2011/04/19/mkcards/comment-page-1/#comment-68996
