It crashed a few minutes after I started when I tried to hand the guard my papers. From what I've read from google this is just a unavoidable problem with this game and the best you can do is save often. True?

Also, am I to assume that the expansions are like with Oblivion in that when you install them they are incorporated into the orininal Morrowind and just become other places and quest mixed into it?

I can only answer your second question(sorry), yes, it is like oblivion and they are just other places, solstheim you can actually swim to if you so desire and the tribunal you talk to a specific person if i recall correctly

Not entirely. It did crash for me when it wasn't even patched properly, but it took a real effort to bring this game down even on my old rig after patching. Maybe I just got lucky, who knows. Yes. Expansions are basically external places you travel to with their own main plots and sidequests. You get the info about them on the main island and just travel there when you feel like doing it. I think it's best to play in order they were published: Morrowind -> Tribunal -> Bloodmoon.

Don't mean to keep being a pest but I installed the unofficial patch (I THINK) correctly, but when I start up it still list it as version 1.6.1 rather that 1.6.3. Am I missing something here? One url told me to go to Data files from the launcher and click UMP but I don't see that option.

If you like exploring in games then Morrowind will be your new home. There are so many good mods that I don't know where to start with recommendations, but luckily there are many guides to the best ones out there.

I will recommend GCD though. It's the best levelling system of any RPG I've played (especially compared to the default awful one), and sadly it tends to get overlooked. Probably not the best option for total RPG newbies though as it does make things a bit tougher initially.

I've played Oblivion to death so I know the Elder Scrolls a little. I got sick of it being so harsh on my specs so I got Morrowind and I'm really digging it.

A bit of info on how Morrowind modding works. Most mods contain both loose files (textures, meshes, etc), along with either an esp or an esm file. The loose files need to be dropped into the proper folder in the Data Files directory, and the esp/esm file needs to be directly in Data Files. You'll then need to select the "Data Files" option on the Morrowind launcher, which will bring up a list of esp and esm files with tick boxes next to the names (by default you should see Morrowind.esm, Tribunal.esm, and Bloodmoon.esm). If you dropped the unofficial patch files into the data files directory correctly then you should also see Morrowind Patch v1.6.3.esm on the list; check the tick box next to that file and the mod becomes active. If you don't see the morrowind patch esm on the list then it means you didn't drop the files into the correct locations. Galsiah's Character Development. It changes how leveling is handled in Morrowind to make it more seamless and avoid the need for powergaming in order to get good stat increases at level-up.

Not sure if my pointing it out counts as recommending it, but just to be sure let me state that I highly recommend it. The default leveling system, while not something I'd call bad, really lends itself to powergaming and min-maxing (which isn't to say that many other elements of Morrowind can't be exploited far more, but with the leveling you'll often find yourself powergaming even if you never intended to). With GCD your stats increase automatically as your skills increase, leaving you much more free to just play the game as your character develops organically based on your skill use.

Then again, if it's your first time you may just want to play the game without any gameplay modifications, just to get the default Morrowind experience on the first go.

Watch from about 1 minute in to about 1:08. That quick little segment there looks like Morrowind assets in the Skyrim engine. Does anyone have any information about these shots?

@tinyE: Be sure to install the Code Patch too. It eliminates the most common causes of crashes and give you plenty of optional useful fixes.

@Qwertyman: That's the latest Skyrim expansion, Dragonborn. It is set on the island of Solstheim, which is part of Morrowind. That's why there's so much Morrowindish stuff in that vid. :)
