Shogun 2 Total War: Fall of Samurai, pre-order DLC arrives at Steam. 4 clans, 5$ each. It's not new content, it's just unlocking the crap already on disk.

low rated
I like how in 2012 people think the disc matters, or that they own anything on it.
Awww, those big pussies. Pay up and shut up already.

What next, people start demanding that game fixes and updates should be free, huh?

The blood pack was were I draw the line. That was just pure BS.
I don't mind them being general DLC as much as the price is pretty silly.
Locking content on the disc is like wanting people to hack their own disk to receive the content.
The Blood Pack supposedly had to be DLC because it would've elevated Shogun's rating from Teen to Mature in some markets. Why it had to cost a dollar or w/e, I'm not so sure.

A dollar basically just covers the cost of the transaction. They probably made money on it, but not much. You have to sell a huge number of copies to make any money like that and the percentage that goes to the CC processor and store swallows up most of it before you even start to worry about taxes on it.

This. There was some pretty good logic behind the blood pack in my opinion. Having it in the game for free/standard would have affected the game's Age rating which would've meant it would've sold at less places in retail. Now the base game is 16+ and the DLC 18+, making it the buyer's responsibility whether they make it an 18+ game or not.

Considering that and the cheap price (1.59), and I personally consider it one of the better ways developers have used DLC.
Seems like they're trying intentionally to muddle up things further.

Buying complete Gold Editions much later with everything included still sounds the best option for me personally. Less headaches.

It's like paying 30 euro for premium, because like you said, with waiting the gold version will cost the same as the release game probably.

Part of it being multiplayer might get people to take the jump though. Multiplayer always tends to be on a timer (from release till ?) unless it really takes off, which is rare. Personally it sounds too much for me when I don't even really know what the content will be. Not to mention I'd probably get it on a sale anyway.

grviper: Snip
Sorry, but not really seeing the issue here. It was pre-order DLC, free to those who pre-ordered and now, sometime later, being made available for purchase to those who didn't. No one is being forced to buy it, and certainly not at the current asking price. Wait a few months more it will be discounted in an eventual sale. Or better yet, if you use GamersGate, wait for an eventual sale and then get them for basically free with blue coins.

It's not a first with Shogun. This sort of DLC has been doing the rounds for a couple of years now.

The Max Payne Season pass on the other hand really is BS. Not only is it the cost of a game, but it's got serious regional price hikes on it, just like the base game. Those in the US/UK could buy the whole double package for about the same price as the R* expect to get for the base game in Australia ($80 base game, $40 DLC)/Japan ($70 base game, $40 DLC). But then, I won't be buying Max Payne 3 for a very long time as a result.

What is the point you are trying to make? What he is talking about (while stupid to really be bitching about in my opinion) is completely unrelated to the way the Rockstar Passes work. I bought the Rockstar Pass for the PS3 version of L.A. Noire & don't regret it in the slightest.... it was a helluva deal considering all things.
