I would like to see GOG release more of their games for free, if it is possible. If not, why?

Because making games cost money? And people want to get paid for those?

But that is just a shot in the blue ...
Bandwidth costs money, so GOG would lose money on free games.

Wait, I thought running the internet was free?

I recall the Humble Bundle people saying that people who pay less than $1 for the bundle end up costing them money that way.

Yeah, people underestimate how much bandwith for companies actually costs. HiB did (imo) a smart move by letting their games being downloaded via torrents.
I think it is quite an achievement that GOG managed to offer so many commercial games for free already ... How many of them are there, 9 or 10? And that they occasionally even gift games they are usually selling - how many other distributors do that?

Wrong answer. NEXT!
Wish everything was free but it aint . Ah well enjoy the games you do get free here but the cost of most of the other games is nearly free so if you save up a bit then you could buy a classic game.
You need to search the internet more, although you specifically mentioned "GOG games". But if you really talk about old games in general, you really need to search the internet. After all:

- the old C&C is free, but no way it will be available on GOG.
- Halloween Harry / Alien Carnage is free, but of course 3d realms is now bust?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_Carnage
(maybe GOG should contact and make it available here? At least for popularity reason.)

Anyway:

You're welcome. Ultima series please... :-)

Well while 3d Realms is bust, Apogee isn't so they could always try them.
As for C&C why wouldn't be available on GOG? It was made by Westwood who is owned by EA and they have EA signed up and have been getting quite a few games out of them, Ultima 1-9 plus Ultima Underworld 1+2 and for free mind you Worlds of Ultima: Savage Empire and Martian Dreams, Bullfrog Classics Theme Hospital, Magic Carpet, Populous 1-Beginning, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper 1+2, as well as Wing Commander 1-4 and Privateer, Nox and Lands of Lore 1-3 to name a few.

Because the IP is still active, and is still a cash cow with the latest collection on ORIGIN. Syndicate, while have a latest Syndicate games (with cool skillrilex music), is not sold as a collection. And here is the funny thing:
It has been released before as free - and they do make some improvement to make it run-able in W7, why don't they even sell it here? Or make it available for free?

I don't know, but it just doesn't add up. Note that Ultima 4 was provided for free before on a website, and also made available for free here. But it didn't happen to C&C. GOG have received enough games from EA that makes me wonder why original C&C is not even here.

But like what I said, maybe because the IP is still active...
cyberchief, have you seen this thread ?

Can you explain to me what's stopping you from downloading free games elsewhere?

I liked what GOG did with releasing Ultima 4 and Worlds of Ultima for free. It completes the series, and giving those games for free may encourage customers to buy other games.

Releasing free games just because they are free doesn't have much sense.

No, but releasing them to increase site traffic makes sense.
I have talked people over to try out both GOG and DotEmu (and even Steam, unfortunately...) with free games. Later, those same people have actually bought games from GOG and DotEmu (and even Steam, unfortunately...).

Even myself included actually, I first grabbed TeenAgent for free, and then later started to buy games - and now I have almost 300 titles on my GOG shelf (although only two for full price, but still).
(Have never bought from Steam, fortunately... :-)

So it makes sense to give something free and cash in later.
It doesn't always work that way though. I got a can of free Coca-Cola in Italy this summer as they were promoting it. I still buy Pepsi, if available.
