sheepdragon: In Norway we have trolls, moose, wolves and lynx. In Australia they have platypus, kangaroos, Atkinson and dingos.

Everyone knows the platypus is a myth.
Nothing like that could ever be real.
I was considering moving to Australia, but it's not feasible until this nonsense is cleared up.

I'm thinking the same thing about the Atkinson.

stonebro: How can you name a carnivorous wolf-like creature ... dingo? I was expecting some cute furry little thing (...)

You mean like this :> ?
They are the cutest canines I've ever seen... and I'm a cat person !

Then do what all sane and informed australian gamers do, import.

Not with Australia's internet speed and download caps. :P
Well my speed and caps are fine, as long as I don't mind stay up till 3am to download in my off peak time...
My caps and speeds are okay (now... earlier on in the year no way). Accept if I want content overseas in large file sizes, it is a leave the PC alone for a couple of hours. And that I'm willing (and stupid) enough to pay the cost it requires, but I don't have many options.
Do you guys get full speed in Australia when downloading from Steam?
Just curious.
I really enjoyed the ADSL2 speed in Melbourne.
Steam download speeds: 600+ KB/sec if it is from GameAreana (ISP unmetered) around 200 from other AU suppliers and about 25 from overseas servers.

Holy crap, that fast.
I only get like 100+kbps and it ain't cheap.
Such a pain to use the internet here. Damn monopoly.
To see these speeds elsewhere is a bit rare for me (mostly it is in the 20-100 range). But almost all of the (large) ISPs here have big content servers, including a steam game cache.
Cheap here? Thanks to lack of competition in my area, I'm stuck with high costs myself. Other suppliers say they'll do it, until I have them look into it. Getting everything to work for an alternative is too much a hassle and cost in itself :\
I tend to get my full speed on Steam, which around mid 900's.
The download cap is a bit of a pain, but if TPG is anything to gy, it seems that they're becoming a little more sensible, or fair.
Recently they've tweaked the amount you can download on peak, which I think is a good step. Bring on cheap unlimited downloads? kthx.

Unmetered, feh! How would I blow my 140 gig offpeak quota that way? :P
I tend to get 200-600 on Steam, but I don't think its measuring is too reliable. The best I've ever downloaded via bittorrent in the 5 hour offpeak time (via TPG) is 8 gigs (~450Kbps average).

You'll find Shutter handy. You can set it to start programs at a specific time by switching the main function to "No action" and adding the relevant program in options (see screenshots).
Minor issue: Shutter will become unresponsive while the external program is still running.
If you're running security software, make sure to do test runs to eliminate any prompts that might pop up.
