Thank you for recently releasing the old Microprose Sword of the Samurai - greatly appreciated. Microprose had an amaing slew of games that far exceed the quality of many games today.

more old games please! there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of old games from the 1980's up to tthe late 2000's that you can release, and i for one would buy them all!

civil war generals, ssi games, great naval battles series, star wars rebellion, star wars xwing alliance, centurion defender of rome, m1 tank platoon 1 and 2, gunship 2000, first samurai, task force 1942, lords of the rising sun, north vs south, battles of napoleon from ssi . 1944 Across the Rhine, War of the Lance, etc etc etc

less of the whimsical forgettable indy hipster slap-dash games made for a quick buck - you dont need to rely on these just yet, there are still thousands of old games - just look through old issues of CGW if you need a reference

GOG isn't neglecting old games, rest assured. These issues have been addressed time and time again, there are a lot of hurdles to overcome when it comes to releasing classic games -- like StingingVelvet said, it's not as easy as people seem to think. The Enigmatic T explained in great detail the different processes they have to go through in order to publish a good old game, and it didn't sound easy at all, there are legal hell situations, quality and compatibility issues that take years for GOG's tech guys to fix before they think the games are in good condition, and there's a lot of games people wishlist that are simply not that good, and, simply put, not worth getting in here just because they're old.

Personally, I like the indie games GOG releases, I can't play old games alone (and I mainly play old games out of nostalgia, sometimes trying to enjoy something I missed back in the day, but also because my PC is crap and doesn't run most newer games). Most of the indie games GOG has released have something very similar to the oldies we love and know are great. I know it's easy to be over-protective, especially when it comes to video games -- gamers are one of the most elitist, fidgety communities out there --, and we are often quick to jump onto the "anti-hipster-indie" bandwagon, but if we gave indies a chance, perhaps we'd realize how awesome some of them are, and how likely they'll be good old games in a few years, in their own right.

Old games? You mean Aztec, Wings of Fury, Karateka? :P

Well I'd take WoF in a heartbeat but that game was timeless.

Tommo has the rights for some of these ( Gunship 2000, task force 1942, 1944 across the Rhine ) , so these are a distinct possibility... but have you checked the wishlist score for these? Gunship is @ +121 and worls very well under dosbox +nglide ( yes, I still have the disk and a few backups...) , but the two others hover in the 20's...
Don't misunderstand me, I would buy them as soon as they appear, and would do the same with many SSI games. But i have seen, from some reactions to the recent release of Sword of the Samurai, that these games could be harder to sell to the vast majority

And, as much as I like those old classics, Gog needs to accomodate for a wide array of tastes. So It shouldn't be indie vs classics vs new releases, but a balanced mix

Me too, although I always sucked at this game and the Amiga version had a lot of unnecessary (see other games with smooth-as-silk scrolling) stuttering. Still I always came back for another round.

And he's not even new to the site, either. :x

I know it isn't easy for GOG to acquire the rights to distribute these classics, so I'll just say "Thank you GOG and keep up the good work!" ^_^

If you done your math correctly, they're actually releasing more proper classics compared to the day when you were new to the site.

Obviously it's not a popular opinion (and I'm sure you'll be downvoted), but I agree with you.

However, as others have said, it's quite difficult to bring many older games due to rights issues (and compatibility issues for others, but generally it's a matter of who has the publishing rights, afaik).

It was easy! Just line up your crosshairs correctly with the carrier and you are home free; she almost lands herself. This doesn't work later in the game when you are trying to land while being attacked by Zeros but a little practice and you can do it.
