Trust me, we'd almost all buy it within an hour of it showing up but it depends on lucasarts agreeing to distribute on GOG, since they have a bit of a thing for DRM and GOG's whole angle is cheap and NO DRM I suspect it'll take a while for it to happen

LucasArts? Needing money? Well, one can dream. With the exception of the ho-hum Lucidity everything they churn out has Star Wars on the box, and that cash cow will never run dry. They have done The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition and a few half-hearted re-releases on Steam, but beyond that they don't seem to care about squeezing money out of legacy titles.

Lucasarts may slowly be warming up to the idea of DRM free releases as Dark Forces is DRM free on Direct2Drive. Nothing else is though.

Dark Forces is a DOS game emulated via DOSBox. Pirating a DOSBox-based release is as simple as copying the files and replacing the proprietary DOSBox build (if any). Because DOSBox is open source any changes to it need to be released as source, so any DRM hooks LucasArts could implement would end up being open for inspection.

I wonder how the adventure games (indy 3 & atlantis, loom, the dig )they have released are protected as there is no drm free logo on them and they would need to use either dosbox or scummvm.

Well if they're SCUMM compatible, you shuld just be able to pull the data files out and run them in scummvm

Thats what i was thinking, but i know Direct2Drive has a nasty internet activation DRM. I can't imagine Lucasarts would be paying to use them though not at the price they're selling them for. I might try one just to see.

Not true. Otherwise Steam's DRM would be open for inspection.
This was explored a while back when ID put up the Doom packs which used DOSBox, but without the GPL documentation that is required of the license. Rather humourously, the people who made DOSBox didn't really care, whereas the GPL fanbase were screaming blue murder. All they ended up doing was including the GPL license text file in an update. No further sourcecode was required or demanded.

The Steam versions of the old Lucasarts adventures have been "de-scumm'ed". They don't work in ScummVM. One of my co-workers bought a pack of them on Steam. I asked him to install ScummVM and see if they'd work there. They didn't.
